Finally hit the vert
Congratulations for hitting the wall again!

You shouldn't be discouraged by you muscled not holding up (yet). You put quite a lot of strain on your thighs when pushing. And you can't really train your muscles by anything else in the right way. It helps to do street skating and other sports, of course, but each activity requires some special muscles. So be patient and persistent and try to skate a ramp several times a week and you soon will notice the improvement.

Well, after forteen years of not getting on my quads and doing a little street skating a few months ago, I finally hit a skatepark today. I sucked! It was like the first time I ever skated vert. I got better after a while, but did absolutely no tricks and could barely go wall to wall. I was able to drop in on the smaller walls, but my legs were like jello. The last time I skated vert was about 8 years ago on my inlines. How long did it take for all of you to get to feeling somewhat comfortable? I think just going from inline to quad is so hard after all of these years, but once I get the basics down, I think the tricks will come back reasonably quick. I skated for only an hour and I ache! I think starting out on a halfpipe would have been easier. I was stuck skating a combo pool and did I say that I sucked!

Well, here is a quick update. I could not skate yesterday because my legs were too sore. I watched an old video of my skating and realized what I was doing wrong. I skated today and it was amazing! I did not do any tricks, but dropped in on the big combo pool. I was able to keep going and carve the entire bowl. I was so used to ramps and big transitions and just doing a trick on each wall. This park does not give you that opportunity. It is all about carving and it was a bit strange for me. I completely exceeded my expections today and had such an amazing time. I remembered to put my right foot forward and shift the weight. I only fell twice and feel so good. I would guess in six weeks I will have my tricks back. I tried one plate trick and bailed, but I think it was because I was scared. Soon I will conquer this place. I live about a half hour from three different skateparks and most are free. The U.S. has come such a long way with supporting skating. I remember going to Europe 14 Years ago and was so envious of all the the skateparks. Now, we have them everythere. I am so addicted again and will not stop again.

I agree with Bernhard. First, it's a good thing to start street skating, so your body can easily get used again to the skating exercise, the balance, and besides you increase the power and strength of your legs.
Second, you have to rip every skatepark around you as much as you can. And try to do it every week, at least once (twice will be better).
There are no secrets. The better way to recover your tricks is skating.
I feel happy for you. Start skating again after beeing out for a long time is a very, very pleasant feeling.

Yippee! Very thrilling...it kinda makes it fun...I relate it to riding a wild rodeo bull, when it gets slightly out of control. I can suggest a mini-half. Less intimidating to drop in and flat consistent walls to pump on and if you bail, easy to get out of. Psyched to hear you're back on the ramp. Skating twice a week would be great, if ya can.
Keep us posted....you'll be upta your old tricks in no time!

Well, after having such a terrible first day. I watched one of my old skates and so much came back to me. I skated on friday and did twice as well. I dropped in the steep combo pool and was able to carve and actually have full runs. The trannies are pretty challenging on this pool, but I started feeling pretty good.
