: I don´t know why it´s like that, but it sounds dump!

So maybe I'll just say I'm a vert skater! Thats what I want to do anyways. I want to do cool things on the ramps. I want to do some grinding, but on top of the coping. Jumping on top of benches and handrails is not my goal.

I guess their focus is on grinding only. Thats not mine..... OK, so I'm a vert skater then. That sounds better too, maybe more accepting to my Mom lol?

For some reason, now that I'm getting better, this question seems to come up more often. "So are you going to get aggressive skates now?" When I tell them, I DO have aggressive skates. I show them my grind plate and say they are aggressive ROLLER skates. And soon I will get wide trucks so I can do all the grinds too. Only one guy is an ass about it though which actually right now is OK, cause its getting me to push myself more. The rest just look at me confused. Most the time its inliners, but I'm trying to make friends with all of them except that one dork.

Should I bring photos to show them that yeah, people do aggressive ROLLER skate, grinds and all, or is there something else I can say? Most of the skateboarders dont say anything or think I have really cool skates, especially when I point out how we both have trucks. It would be cool though if I could be good on both sides and maybe help bring us more so together, that we are all just here to skate. I guess there is such pressure at that age to fit in and follow the norm that I'm really throwing them off!

And are these old school skates? I donno. I was asked that too. I cant wait til I can really skate well leaving them drooling with envy lol.

Like surfing preceded skateboarding, so did rollerskating. It is inlining's history and they don't know nuttin' about it.
What else...metal vs plastic, trucks that turn and carve, maintenance/longevity and simply...it's more fun!

Hum......but I'm wondering, if all these questions are out of curiousity and ignorance too? I just tried to step into their shoes. Which in some ways I was not that long ago. I had NO idea you could skate ramps at the skatepark on roller skates just because I never saw it, NEVER EVER even seen a person on roller skates on the streets/sidewalks even. You can ask Lisa. I was very fearful that roller skates could actually skate on the streets because everyone just told me I would hate it and fall on my face. I just tried roller skating this winter and fell in love with it from day one, so that was that. I thought about inline, tried them on and cant waiver. I'm happy being square!

I'm still learning what you can/cant do on roller skates even so. All I know really is from the internet and info from the few aggressive roller skaters I know.

So I printed some photos of aggressive skaters and a few grinding pics so they could see. When I saw pics myself, thats where I went WOW! We already all know that roller skating is more fun, rofl! ;-D

But its still odd. When I first went there people looked at me strange. I really thought it was my age, or that I was a girl. They actually think I'm 21 (OK Dave, you cant tell them, ha!) and accept me as a really cool girl so yeah, what REALLY sticks out is my roller skates!! I'm just surprised that now that I'm getting better, they are thinking I want an "upgrade" so I can do more. OK, yeah, I strattled a flying skateboard today in a split sec., so maybe I'm about ready for wider trucks! :-D Yep, thats my new special trick!

Which is a GOOD THING. Most people try just to learn the rules by which they can get through life. You show them that not all is set in stone!

Let him be. He's particularly entrenched in his narrow world view. Quite well possible that he never catches up.

: Should I bring photos to show them that yeah, people do aggressive ROLLER skate, grinds and all, or is there something else I can say?

I often told them that I was using those roller skates because I cannot walk very well and the doctor subscribed me those training wheels until I got better.

: Most of the skateboarders dont say anything or think I have really cool skates, especially when I point out how we both have trucks.

You can tell those that it's just like two skateboards and therefore twice as good. You can also point them to the roller skates of Holger Sander

: It would be cool though if I could be good on both sides and maybe help bring us more so together, that we are all just here to skate.

I see it this way too. But to those guys it's important to have their peer group which is different from others. "We are the good ones, those are the bad ones". Yuck!

: I guess there is such pressure at that age to fit in and follow the norm that I'm really throwing them off!

Only too true!

Oh, UR too much! So U adding up both my ages? ;-D Well, if I look THIS good when I get that old, that would be AMAZING! But I think when I"m flying on the ramps at that age, THEN they will be staring at me for being so old lol.

Honestly tho, I think this kid is HELPING me! I think I'll be better cause of it. But I talked to the skateboarders and they also said yeah, he talks too much lol. So he is working on getting beat up one day I'm sure!

Seems to be more pressure nowadays to conform. Kids never think for themselves anymore it seeems.

When I was that age, I still did my own thing! I guess I was just oblivious to what others thought or too much into my own little world that I didnt even know what was the norm lol. I'm adhd. My friend I skate with at the rink was mentioning how she thought I would love competiting since I'm such an extrovert and probably would love the attention. I donno about that. Like I said, I'm just oblivious to others when I'm' having so much fun lol! I'm in my own happy world. Sometimes I look up and realize that everyone is watching me and think, oh, theyre staring at me lol.........

:I think aggressive is an attitude and a way of riding. Skateboarders don't ask "is that an aggressive skateboard?" they either skate aggresively or they don't. I have seen lots of kids on inline skate cruising around and not really skating aggresivly at all. I would say that my skates are made to hold up to aggressive riding and I ride them aggressively. I hear the same question and get the same looks.

Well, I like the way Rene put vert. skater. I like that term. I think my skates are built for aggressive skating, maybe they look mean, or maybe they are just too darn cool! I donno. But they certainly arent disco skates!!

I can certainly show my teeth and grunt like my bunny does but I'm hardly more menacing lol. Spunky, fun and crazy maybe. I'm pretty tiny and well, dont think I sport the gansta look well. But I have been asked if I chewed on my last pair of skates, so there ya go, I'm VISCIOUS. :-D

: LOL, thats funny! Good one.

You sometimes have to develop a dry humor to survive as a roller skater. ;-)

Probably most people don't think for themselves. Maybe conformism is stronger nowadays but I think it always was predominant.

: Like I said, I'm just oblivious to others when I'm' having so much fun lol!

Same here. However, I used to know an inlins speed skater who seems to be craving for attention. He always talked about how people turned their heads to admire his tights or his speed skates or whatever. I don't pay attention to people when crusing the streets on my street skates.
