no sketchers toe guards
: only leather they have. Any hints to places that I can find them? I was thinking of hockey tar, to put on my artistic skates too since I dont want to have to drive to the rink to practice my jumps. But guards would be nicer! I'd rather my boots look dumb but stay in one piece.

claudine, found the toe-guards. go to google, type in skechers toe-guards, scroll down to skechers rollerskate toe covers. this is at www.skates.com. thanks. eric

FELTS: mini-trucks/boot problems (20. Jul. 2007 17:39)
claudine, tracker trucks has the tracker mid-track. not too wide and stable depending on bushing hardness and tightness of kingpin. however, you'll have to find plates to mount them to. tracker made trekker plates specificly for skates. pretty much non-existent now. boots: riedell 125 or 265. skechers makes urethane toe-guards availaible at www.skates.com. if you can find original riedell 265's made in the 70's/80's they have the 3/4 inch heel. (more leverage). and have thick gauge leather.the new version has a speed heel (1/4 inch). and thin gauge leather. eric

Hey thanks!
I think at this point, since I want to get into bowls right now, I wont really need wide trucks immediately. Once I'm doing a bunch of tricks, I'll know I'm ready. Just digging the ride and wanting to work on grabs/inverts first which will keep me occupied for a good year I'm thinking. But I want to know what I'll get and how to mount them first before I even think of diving in. How wide is the hanger width? I dont really want that to go beyond 3 inches since I have a narrow build.

I think I'm getting the 265s but I havent found an older version of those. I was told that a large heel isnt good since you dont force yourself forward. The hockey boots just dont conform to my foot the way I like so I can control my skates and move the way I want.

But toes guards, YES! I check into it. I need serious help there cause I'm always sliding on my toes for some reason. I hope they are bullet proof lol!

there used to be plastic toe guards designed for hockey boots, like the plastic strips, but a cup-like shape that covers the toe box area.
haven't seen these in years.

Oh no! I guess its leather or hockey tar if I can find that. Bummer. I had my fingers crossed you had the connections. I'm wondering if I could find a cheap set of elbow pads, I could cut a hole for the stopper and 2 small ones for the laces...... Otherwise, not sure how you would attach it. I might try to find a local car dump too lol. You never know what you could find. Rubber bumpers might do. So might the plastic dashboard if I could get a really good saw lol.

Did you have a look at the toe guards I built for my skates? A piece of hard, durable plastic, a big hole for the stopper, two small holes at the other end ...

Show me! I got a huge thick rubber plundger here I just found at the dollar store to make toe guards. Maybe we are thinking along the same lines? I need to set this up soon on my art skates cause now I have the entire mall here to skate after the sun rises. :-D

You can see this on the Hot to build a vertical rollerskate page. It contains a picture of the boot with the toe guards attached

claudine, i bought 2 pair of skecher toe-guards (black and blue) a year ago from skates on haight. their storefront address is www.skates.com. the owner is lee cole. contact him or a sales rep. when i ordered they had a ton of 'em. they don't last a long time (6 months) but i ride 695's and those are $300 a pop. if push comes to shove i'll send you a used set of mine. give me your e-mail so i can get a physical address to send them to. i called skechers and they have them but ship to distributors only and wouldn't give me a retail list. this time last year i was in your position: kneesliding and destroying expensive boots. i contacted irene and other vert skaters but no dice. i think i lucked into them on the internet. 20 years ago i used smith skins: a lace-saver contraption for skateboarders. they worked well. maybe contact dale smith at smith pads. the owner. eric
