A question on Smith Scabs recaps?
I got them and put them on today, but they immediately popped off. Any ideas on how to get them stay on? Upholstery tape with the sticky stuff on the inside? Sorry I donnot know the correct name.

I am confused how they fell off. Anytime I have put on recaps, they had adhesive stips that stuck. Did you apply them to a clean surface? Use super glue if you have to.

Yes I did. They seem a touch more concave then the original so its not exactly sitting smoothly. I sent the company an email. They just instantly popped off! I wasnt sure if there was a secret or something, I donno....... Disappointed in them!

You need double-faced adhesive tape. Normally each recap should come with two strips which are very sticky. You put them on the recaps which are already on the knee pads. Then you bend the recaps you want to put over them so that they will really fit. Normally it's best to see how someone in the know does it.

I'll try it again! The tape didnt stick well enough. I'll try to bend them. Here, I am absolutely the only outdoor quad skater period. I have honestly never in my whole life seen someone on quads outside much less aggressive skate. The boarders and kids really dont wear much in the way of pads, maybe protecs.

Thats what I meant to say lol! I guess I will try that. I think the tape has dried up by now.

I also didn't learn it from a rollerskater but from a skateboarder. And yes, it is a bit tricky to attach those recaps.

The street and miniramp skateboarders seem to think that pads are uncool. Very few of them wear any.

Together with Chris Eggers and some of his skateboard friends I once did a web project against this perception called W-Y-H.org (Wear Your Helmet). It had been started under the impression of a skater who died in the skatepark Hard skating there without helment before its opening.

Never heard of adhesive tape drying up. Did you pull off the protection foil?

Yes. I threw the covering away so they've been sitting in my car. :-(

I dont get it. In artistic skating, you wont find many people willing to do freestyle since they dont want to hurt themselves. Pads there are way uncool! Then I was kicked out of a derby practice in a flat empty garage for just forgetting my helmet and I said I would skate easy on my own. Both ways seem lame to me!

Some kids now wear pads, but it is looked down upon. But since they already make fun of my disco skates at times, I dont care. Especially right now without health insurance. Its either pads or no skating. The pads cost nothing compared to a hospital visit. I do not enjoy injury! Now with my knee pads on, I dont feel a thing. Its like falling in a moon bounce. :-D

claudine: What I just did..... (27. Sep. 2007 16:41)
I put them on and bent in the original knee cap and rocked it so it would stick on better. Then put my weight on top of it. I hope it works! I'm skating at the park every other day til my foot is 100% and hopefully tomorrow I will know they stay.

Thanks!!

I used 3M double-stick tape. It's foam about 1/16 thick and I used alot of it. Heat up the strips before applying the stick. I used a lighter after peeling one side, apply heat and stick. Caps never came off. Roll up a towel or something to fit into the knee pocket and put it under heavy weights overnite. The caps aren't exactly the right shape, I know...email them about that, too. I think velcro works, like Gambin suggested. Once with Pro-designed knee pads, I used short screws put around the top and sides, that works if you don't mind the metal. Hope this helps.

If they pop off again, I will certainly do that!! Yes, they are NOT the same shape.......they should fix that. Otherwise, love those pads! They are hot with the gaskets on in 90 degree weather but its like falling on a pilliow. :-D They dont move around on me and my knees dont knock. I can still kick up my heels too!
