a cool video
Robert, I can assure you that there are a lot of vertical roller skaters skating parallel. However, side stance seems to be the predominant style in the US. I Europe, however, there are a few stylish side stance skaters, but most are riding parallel.

I have seen that video and those guys are ripping it up. I love the fact that this person can skate side stance and parellel. I also really like all of the different plate tricks he does. Claudine, if you have a mini ramp, those are the types of plate tricks you should try to learn. They are not real hard, but look so good and they are fun.

I was not sure if that was two people or just one guy. I am guessing someone on here knows who this is? Claudine, I realize you are trying to embrace skating with so much enthusiasm, but I want to ask a favor. Will you stick to skating with both feet forward? So many of the skaters on here skate sidestance and I think they are amazing! I just need a few people out there to skate my style. lol I think people that skate side stance have so much style and are so amazing, but our sport is so limited in people and I need a few that skate my style. : )

While in Europe, I skated with people that did both styles. I truly enjoyed watching all of them. I would love to come in contact with Toto Ghali and Martin Broich again. I had the pleasure of skating with Toto for about two weeks. He was incredibly nice and was only one of the many that spoke English so he helped out a lot. Toto had amazing style. Both Toto and Martin were great on skates and could also skateboard very well. Martin had a more aggressive style and was a bad ass. He took me out one night and let me tell you that I was fortunate enough to be on his good side. He was a very nice guy, but also a total bad ass and I would never want to be on his bad side. lol When I travelled Europe, there were so many rollerskaters. It was so awesome. I travelled by myself and did not know a soul and I found the europeans to be awesome. I made a great friend at the time named David. He was Spanish and I did not understand everything he said, but he was so nice and invited me to his home. I am guessing he is about 30 years old now and I hope he is still skating. I am pretty sure that everyone on this site would welcome a visitor and show them a great time. I have very little room for a visitor, but I would make sure to make room. We are a small community and we have to stick together. I don't have time to entertain a guest, but anyone is welcome to come stay for awhile. Any Euopeans or skaters from other states are completely welcome to come visit. My house is your house and my food is your food. The only constraint is that I have to work 8 hours a day and probably can't be a good host. But, I am happy to share what I have.

Wow, free food Robert? I might have to go pack lol!

But my style may not be a choice. I would like to be ambiskaterous. But right now if I try sidestance, I only make it up the ramp 2 feet and havent been improving rapidly. Front stance feels natural and I did not come from a skateboarding background. But I would like to do both because some tricks seem easier to enter from sidetance. And its another challenge, fun, and something else for the kids to tease me about since I kinda look like a frog already lol.

No worry Robert, my feet still go forward. :-D

Do you know that he posted to this forum only recently? I refer to message 3817.

We all have to improve our Spanish. Spain is the biggest roller skating nation at the moment!

Thanks! And that was just me in the video. As to the plate tricks, I'm assuming that you mean stall stepping the coping. It helps for increasing the speed of your eye to foot coordination, which can lead to bigger and harder tricks. I find that it also helps train me to un-hang my trucks off the coping on big airs, if they catch.

And btw, I am Biff Riley down in the little state of Texas! Austin, that is!
(though I think we have already met by now - old thread)

Cheers!
Biff
