Grindbars?
Well, most of us made ours like Joe mentioned. All we used were plastic, wood or aluminum and a jigsaw and drill. If you are interested, there are many posts on it by me and others and I posted a lot on my website so others could learn. And we are more then happy to help!

But you can start without them or just with 2 jump bars. Check out this video of a derby girl with just derby skates. This is about as far as you will get for the first year in all honesty. So you can even drop in with toe stops!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5uqlEaLERM

I had no prior experience with roller skating or any other balance sport til a year ago really, so I started with nothing. I just started this summer going to the park cause it just looked like too much fun and I instantly became addicted. I love to build so I wanted to build nice skates cause I know I will do this til I can't skate anymore. And I had time to learn now.

But I am just NOW thinking about stalls and such. I'm still a beginner skater in vert so even if I didn't have them on, there is still SO much for me to learn! I do like slightly wider trucks just cause they are for me so stable, but they aren't necessary til you grind. Like I mentioned, I am just now beginning to think about it and it will really be another 6 months before I think I will do anything with any grace lol.

Well, if she sent them to me would it be cheapier for me to send them to you? I will do that and thats a promise!! Let me know, I can send you simple jump bars too if you cant get them there. They dont weigh much...... I can ask how much it is to send just a grind bar. You would just have to have sure grip plates on for that.

: Anyone knows an european website were I can buy Grind Bars? I can only find it on the Roller Girl site and the ships from USA/Canada normaly costs over 100 dollar (I live in Sweden). Itīs impossible to find good roller skates and tools ec. here...
: Please help me, I want to get started as soon as possible with my crazy vertical skating idea :-D

Wow, I think it is strange that a $20 pair of grind bars would cost so much to ship? I would definitely double check that. I have rollergirls grind bars and they are absolutely great for the skaters that like to do plate slides. I have never really done those and just use them for plate tricks and would prefer having more depth between the bar and the coping. I like what I have seen with the plastic sliders that attach to the plate because you can get more of a clasp on the coping. Athough I think it would be cool to make your own, I would also check with UPS and see how much a 2 lb package would cost to ship out of country. That sounds way too high.

Hej Robert, thanks for your replie! I actuelly dont know if it costs over 100 dollar from Roller Girl (I cant see any information about that on the site). However, it normally costs around 120 dollars to schip from an USA internet store to Sweden - even if itīs just a little thing - thats my experianc!! I think itīs OK if Iīm buying a lot of things, but for just a pair of grindbars I think itīs too much. But now it dosent matter anymore because I have deciaded to also order the roller skates from Roller Girls site. I think I want to wait to build my one ones because I dont know what I like!
Again, thanks a lot

 Hi Majja,
I bought 2 times from Rollergirl to France, shipping was about 30 euros for 100 euros stuff. Contact her by email, she replies very fast and have low cost transport solutions!!!! Maybe it's easier to buy at least plates/trucks/grindbars at the same time, as they have to fit together. For shoes, it's easier if you can try them.
And mounting shoes on plates is not that tricky.

Hej Zorg and thanks. It sounds perfect that I can get so cheap shipping from Roller Girl! I can really see what you meen by saying that I need to try the boots. But the thing is that I canīt find any quad roller skate store here in Sweden - we have nothing here regarding to quads - just inlines. But do you think I can use another boot? Does it have to be roller skate boots?? But if the shipping is so cheap from Roller Girl I can always send the roller skates back and change to another size if nessesary (hopefully not).
Best regards Majja

: But do you think I can use another boot? Does it have to be roller skate boots??

It depends on which part of the world you are living. In Americs, a lot of roller skaters use roller skating boots like the ones made by Riedell. In Europe, most roller skaters use ice hockey boots. Some people also use inline boots.

: But if the shipping is so cheap from Roller Girl I can always send the roller skates back and change to another size if nessesary (hopefully not).

When I ordered my boots, I traced my foot on a piece of paper and faxed it in advance (nowadays I would probably send a scan of the drawing via email). I didn't have to send back the boots. They fitted perfectly the first time.

On my street skates, I often used basketball shoes. Those should be readily available in most parts of the world. I wouldn't recommend them for serious ramp skating, however.

For boots they should just be sturdy and supportive. If they are not roller skate boots, you have to put metal pieces on the inside of the boot so the bolts dont pull through. I have an idea! Measure the length of your foot for me. I am selling my old skates. I have a size 6 mens hockey skates that have plates that will go with the grind bars/ramp trucks:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/spo/494818164.html

But they run wide (why I'm selling them), and fit like a men's size 5.5, so probably too small.

But I have some dominions (the urban roller) which are a size 6 but fit like a size 6.5. They are an inch too long for me! But they dont take the ramp trucks or grind bars and have a big heel. I love them for streets but dont really need them since I have a pair I love more. They are also used so I would sell them for very little for you!! Less then the cost of really cheap shipping for sure lol. They arent great ramp skates but if you just get some wheels, I started on those and that would give you time to build/think/get better skates if they might fit you.

Hey, you jinxed me. I dont think its my knee really. I think I overdid it on the hamstring curl machine cause it hurts where my hamstring attaches and I've been really uping the weight on those machines. So I have a new strain lol. But I had fun today! I think I'm in for a one to 2 week lay off. :`(

: Ordering skates online really sucks. I was scared ordering my skates, but rollergirl asked me all of the right questions and we talked many times before I actually bought them. The skates she sent me are awesome and fit perfectly. Rollergirl is awesome and she will treat you well.

: : Yep, she is AWESOME!!!! :-D

: : : Cool. I ordered my skates from rollergirl and she was so helpful and so nice. I would e-mail her and ask what shipping will cost. She seems to have the answer to everything.

: : : : Hej Robert, thanks for your replie!
: : : : Again, thanks a lot

: : : : : Wow, I think it is strange that a $20 pair of grind bars would cost so much to ship? I would definitely double check that. I have rollergirls grind bars and they are absolutely great for the skaters that like to do plate slides. I have never really done those and just use them for plate tricks and would prefer having more depth between the bar and the coping. I like what I have seen with the plastic sliders that attach to the plate because you can get more of a clasp on the coping. Athough I think it would be cool to make your own, I would also check with UPS and see how much a 2 lb package would cost to ship out of country. That sounds way too high.

: : : : : : Thanks Joe for your tips! I now have an idea of how to do things.
: : : : : : Tack, Majja
