To the coping and BEYOND?
Well, getting better in some things but I still dont have quite enough speed for stalls. I can get one skate up there, but for front stalls I need both with speed to get erect to stand up straight for the stall and for back stalls I need to get my other skate up there. So I need another 2-3 inches of speed!!

I got it so now I can just step on the coping in the center of the ramp, stand up straight and jump in, then compress down, but that didnt help and I have no idea why. Think cause I hit lower? I guess pumping IS mostly in the knees and the speed comes from really pushing up from a squatted position going up the ramp? Thats where I am having trouble cause of my injury. I'm taking a short lay off cause I think I'm messing up cause of it and Holly is gone next weekend so I might skip. Bummer!

But I think I can JUMP the spine next time! Its the same drop in as the halfpipe, but the spine is only about 4 feet tall. There are 2 pieces of coping on both sides so my feet arent big enough to stall them both to go over, but I think if I just lift my feet and lean forward to jump it, I have it easy right? Just need to get over the fear mentally. I think I will smash my ass the first time but its well protected lol so it doesnt hurt. Or I could break my nose, hahaha?

I dropped in a higher ramp and finally got over both the humpty-humps and had a blast with Holly so it was a good sk8n day til my leg said NO. If possible, I need to stall somehow in 2 weeks from now if my leg must rest. Thats the last day this park is open til March.

Good onya I recon make sure you can ride to the top and just stall or turn and stall rather than jumping or steping up for it as it will start to create a desperate and scetchy style wich may be hard to shake later on.Cant wait to see some footage of you and Holly sessionong,it's rad to have a buggy,,me and Ludi fire each other up all the time plus the skateboarders we skate with are way fucken rad,we are part of the crew straight up.Feel kinda spoilt realy.

cheers joe

I just need to get higher after I drop in. I think I have to let my leg heal so I can use it lol.

Skating with Holly is the best! We have so much fun together. Its nice to have someone to drag you up a ramp when your legs get too tired and you dont make it lol.

I was watching UR videos. :-D Hey, think I understand pumping more. Seems like the best way to think about it is lowering your butt to your heels then pressing with your legs as you go up? Thats right correct? Cause I'm keeping my butt up high in the air and mostly just leaning forward right now and just using upper body so I dont have to bend my knees much lol.....looks dumb too. But if I worked on doing tons of squats at home, think that would help get my legs strong again so I do it right.

Pushing is very similar to gaining height on a swing. You compress and push when you are going down the transitition (well, that works best once you already have some height. So the initial height is achieved otherwise).

 Hi Claudine,
"lowering your butt to your heels then pressing with your legs as you go up" is good for ramps without vert, usually small ones, where the last tangent doesn't reach vert: you have to push a bit in order to land inside the ramp (not on the plateform).
On verts, as you go up, you have to lock your knees a bit bent (and not push). Like this, your gravity center follow the good trajectory and you land knees bent, ready to push as you go down. If you push the way up on vert, you will do like Jack Brown, a mega flat landing.....
I will try to extract a pict sequence from vidz on verts/not verts to compare (something like this one).

OK, maybe I'm still a bit confused on how to get higher on smaller ramps. I'm actually afraid of heights so it will be another year or so before I hit true vert anything lol. So I might have to leave that ramp below for Jack Brown cause I'm too old to break every bone in my body. But I will see if I try it this way, if I can get higher. Right now I am just mostly compressing with my upper body cause of my knee and I think its mostly lower body but I donno.

I guess since I"m resting my leg this week, I should go find a swing and practice! :-D

That video is so disturbing to me. I am so glad he came out of that fall ok. Claudine, I am guessing your challenge is dropping in and the pump going down the wall. Going up is not the place to pump. When dropping in step in at the highest point and don't jump. You need to squat at the highest point of the wall and while coming up from the squat you should be at the transion of the flat bottom. This is where you get your speed from pumping and going up should be a forward motion sort of throwing your arms and body upward. You are basically crouching like a squat and pushing down hard to generate speed. At the bottom of the transion where you start straighting up is where you get your speed. Just becarelful not to put too much weight leaning backwards or your feet will give out and you will land on your butt. I just bought an awesome camera that does video and I hope to start using it this weekend. If things go as planned, I will skate a bit to get my skills back and I will put together a little video for you. It could take a while, but will give me something to focus on. I will try to convey this thought in your mind: Get to the coping with one foot on it. Stand up straight with your weight on your plate. While having all of your weight on that foot standing staight up, step in bending your body and legs. Around half way down push your legs hard as if you are getting up from a crouch. This will give you plenty of spee.

I cant watch that video either! OUCH!!!

Wow Robert, VERY helpful. Yeah, if you can do a video, dont worry, no hurry, that would be awesome. I'm also trying to figure out if my toe stops would work ok with a forward mount plate. Lisa said she bounces off the wall with them lol, awesome!

I was focusing more on the other side and yeah, when I jumped in it didnt help. So its mostly on the wall you drop in on and pushing up as you hit the flat of the ramp before the other side? Thats where I'm messing up I think.

Its so hard to not have someone to watch that does frontstance. The inlines really just grind at my skatepark. I seem to miss it watching the skateboarders. I'm always so focused on the other side, dont pay much attention to when I'm going in. Thanks! Not sure yet if I'm skating this weekend or allowing my knee to rest cause this skatepark is ONLY open 2 more weekends til March......grrrrrrrr. So I will have to see if that indoor skatepark that is far has a halfpipe cause my life goal right now is stalls and airs lol. Oh yeah, and a job rofl.
