Brian,

Do you have a website? Let's start a dialogue through email. I may have a good way to get your new designs out there.

Thanks,

Jared

 Hi folks,

Some of you have heard this news already, but for those who haven't, here's a letter I just received from Brian Wainwright.
***********************************************

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all doing well and having a happy new year so far!
I filmed an interview for the Core Culture show back in Sept and gathered some additional footage for the show from other places. I received notice recently that the show would be aired on the Fox Sports Network, January 21st at 4pm. (?eastern or pacific I am not sure) We talked about the origins of what I do and where I fit in at this point, as well as my efforts to get a proper skate on the market. Enjoy!

take care, Brian

Thanks for posting this info.

I got this mail from Brian, too. Although I cannot watch American TV over here (come to think of it: I don't watch any TV), I'm glad that this info on the goings-on in the world of vertical roller skating gets spread.

 Hi Jared,

welcome to our vertical roller skate forum. It's nice to see people interested in roller skates. May I ask what your interest in roller skates is? Your web site doesn't exactly tell very much about you ...

I managed to tape the show on Tues. Great going, Brian! A sense of real determination came through during your segment. And as always, super skating/footage! Hopefully, the rest of the world will understand what it's all about with your help and more will become interested in this unique sport. Really rad to be on the same show as Gwar! Keep on keepin' on.

You wouldn't happen to have the hardware to convert that VHS tape into a computer file would you Irene? We don't get Fox Sports up here in Canada (just the odd show of it on another network).

Would you know the name of the hardware that does this type of conversion?

I'm only guessing that it would be something similar to a tv tuner card in your computer. Bern and Tobi are both programmers. They might know.

That's right. Those cards often function as video grabbers, too.

Q: What type of file format works for you guys? Or, what type of file can you view? I can try to get the video footage converted into something you can view. If it's too large to email, I can send it to you all on a CD. Does it have to be cross platform, or do you have a preference for Mac or PC?

Thanks Irene, I am glad that you were able to catch it and enjoyed the show. I hope that it will help the cause.

Avi, mpeg, wmf, or mov all work for me. If it's fairly large maybe someone has some server space we can use. I've got about 20 mb available on the outdoor quadder site for files.

Neither. I have a Linux box. Mpeg should be supported best across platforms. Quicktime would be nice but is a headache to get to work on Linux (no, I haven't got it).

I agree with Bernhard that mpeg would be most cross-platform.

Don't forget that there probably would be copyright etc issues involved when hosting a TV show segment online, publicly. If Irene manages to get the tape converted to mpeg (perhaps you can ask some tech friend of yours, Irene :), it might be the best solution to upload it to some server (eg mine, perhaps Bernhard's), then email the password to a few interested people, and take the flick down again after some days.

 To All:

The copy I have is really poor, but it is still really viewable. Unless Brian can get a better copy, I will try to get it converted here. I have access to a multimedia dept here at the job. I will keep you posted.

If we have the permission to provide the show on the net I will gladly provide some space for it.

That's great. I'm really bad with video and "only" have photo equipment and a slide scanner at home. Today I will be in Winterthur and probably also take some pictures there.
