For those of you who don't know:
Biff's in surgery in Texas today for his knee. I think it would be AWESOME & appropriate for us rollerskaters to send all our positive vibes/energy/kharma whatever you want to call it to Biff today.
I've been doing it since I started work @ 5am this morning & hope it's working.
Thanks, everybody......
HEAL WELL BROTHER, BIFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much, Jay! This thread has made my day much lighter and promising. I'm posting a pic of my leg. I hope it loads right.

Surgery went well, as far as I can tell. They cleaned up some torn meniscus that they found, as well as reattached my torn quad tendon. They mentioned one other thing, which I forget what it was called. The quad tendon damage was new, the other stuff was from old injuries!

I'll start icing my leg today (Friday), and I'll be taking the brace off from time to time in order to bend the knee up to 20°. I'm already doing some light walking on my leg too, with an assist from the leg brace.

Cheers!
Biff

I also had my quadriceps tendon re-attached almost three years ago. I can do everything again with my leg, but at times it still feels not quite right. I have to admit that I waited a bit long with the surgery.

Hmmmm.....good luck with a knife?! That sounds like an oxymoron. I'll go for the speedy recovery, though. ;)

Btw, I enjoyed the photos of you, on your trip with Jay and all the other skaters, that Jay posted.
Keep on rolling! You do it so well.

Cheers!

That could be what your problem was. My doctor reccomended getting the surgery done immediately! She said that the longer you wait, the greater the chance is that surgery will not help. How long did you wait?

Ah, at first I've been limping around for a month, hoping for my leg to get better. Finally, I realized that it something worse than a strain and I went to an orthopedist. Well, he suggested consulting a specialist at the university hospital. That cost me another month and I even didn't get to see the head physician I had waited so long for, but only his deputy who obviously was eager to butcher me. But since he only made the impression of wanting to impress a female assistant physician and not of having experience with really re-attaching quadriceps tendons, I decided to drop all of those physicians and went for a real butchering specialist who explained the surgery in a clear and understandable way and who also had done this several times already. Well, I should have gone to him immediately, but I hoped to get away with no surgery for too long. However, I'm glad now that I did it. Live is so much better with two functioning legs.

Ha! There is a guy in the ortho clinic I went to, that seems like he is into impressing others with his manliness. I'm glad that I got a female doctor. She was down to earth, and to tell you the truth, I think women are better suited to pay attention to detailed work better than men. I trusted her to do it right, with little wasted time on preening her peacock feathers.

Sorry guys. LOL!

Wow, already walking some? Looks great! I wasnt supposed to put weight on it for 2-3 days, use a crutch, but on the 3rd, I walked down the mall with it lol. I got too bored....

The bending after it heals will hurt, but do it! Takes months but the pain will go away if you break down the scar tissue. Mine FINALLY is ok and I got back full mobility in my knee. Stability takes a long time too. Glad you have stuff to do! I went swimming today. I rank that tops for rehab exercises. My arm got lots of exercise today and ironically feels better after swimming. I actually find it more fun then stationary bike because at least I am moving...... I'm going tomorrow! Everything is more fun coming back too. Keep it elevated for now! I hope you dont have an inch of ice covering everything like here. I'm lucky I havent fallen yet, only ice skated lol.

Swimming ranks top on my list for rehabilitating my knee. Bicycling might rank 2nd. Thanks for your advice. I will definitely keep all of it in mind while I am recuperating.

Cheers!

I would choose a female over male surgeon given the option too. I wouldnt let a guy put a cast on after I had one do one once. His hurt!!!! They seem not to care as much on my comfort and be attentive to detail as much. My surgeon was a male but was one of the only surgeons who would work on my arm. He did an amazing job I think, less so on the stitches but thats not my priority. I guess if he were female, he would have consulted with me more on options and I could have had the 2nd surgery 1st. But I was already out of time........ I think its common for surgeons to not communicate the best. I ask nurses the questions, but they cant answer all. At least I have 2 arms now. I would certainly recommend him. Hes a great dr. Not the best communicator on options, not the best for pretty scars, but bolted my arm together very well! Actually, not sure of any female ortho drs. here. I donno, he is also a nice looking man so I didnt mind too much. lol..

I so want to go to Spain one day so that I can hit those huge downhills with you, that you Spaniards roll down! I am so psyched whenever I see you all bomb those mountain roads. Yow!
