You just said why......they are "crazy"!

Me, I wait till I'm good and well healed before I get back up on my skates. I want to be skating till my last breath. If that means healing, so be it. It isn't worth it to go back too early and destroy yourself to the point where ever skating again is totally out of the question.

The last time I injured my leg, I waited 2 years before hitting my skates again. I had 2 #1 tears in the left knee ligaments. They weren't major tears, but I could feel them. So, I waited until my knee felt strong. It was SO worth the wait!

: Why does everyone else with a break start doing crazy stuff 2 months later?????

I saw my arm dr. yesterday. My arm is only 90-95% healed and will take a full year (from last surgery) to be 100%. So he told me I cannot skate outside til May (or maybe June) 1st. I will have surgery in May to get the stimulator out and for my elbow so I get more movement but he cannot do much for my wrist. I cant bend it enough yet to do push ups yet. And no help on muscle spasms. He said they will go away. They are driving me NUTS. The sore spot on my bone is the end of the plate which he cant remove til 16 months after the surgery. So I'm not sure if I can ride easy (carve) the baby bowls in May or not. I guess I wont be able to do anything serious til November. This is a loooong time!! That's not so nice but it's still good that your arm has been mended. Just imagine the shape it was in last summer.

I had a similar problem with my leg. Severe pain in the upper part, far away from the tear in the tendon. It resulted from walking about for two month before the surgery. Wrong load on the muscle cramped it severely. It also drove me nuts, but it is gone now. What helped a lot was additional physiotherapy for my cramped muscle.

Hey, not everyone! It's just that severe injuries take time and that we are very lucky that modern medicine can put us in shape again. It's not so long ago that the likes of you and me would have been crippled for life.

At least I started a painting finally last night, but the spasms make it difficult to do my work. The pains in my hip will go away too he said but all this takes time. I wish he could help me more with my wrist but I guess that is just hard work on my part and luck.

I am wondering how strong is 90-95%? I have learned that falling can be planned! Its just knowing the correct way to fall. I fell off the unicycle yesterday. The cranks got stuck perpendicular to the ground and wouldnt move. I guess because its a small uni and the cranks are tiny and choppy. So it threw me back. It felt like a long time for the fall. All I could think of was pick a cheek and arms up to sky. My butt is sore as I hit my sit bone. Probably should have let my elbows down too to take up some impact but I dont think my hands will touch the ground anymore or get near it for awhile lol. I am wondering if skating on a flat area on the street is really that bad? I know now my arm wont hit the ground. I will bust my butt or shoulder first. I am so tired of watching skating and not doing it. But it looks like I can speed skate with the inliners again and maybe I'll enjoy that for a bit. But its not the same. I am impatient and spoiled lol. Robert started skating 3 months after he broke his elbow! Not fair!! Now my primary Dr. wants me to have all these tests because I'm old and of age. I dont like going to Drs lol.

I dont understand how a ligament tear can take 2 years to heal. I havent heard of anyone taking that much time off. Did you see a Dr? Do PT? Even with my arm/knee, it helps healing to exercise it. I just cant take any hard falls on it for awhile. I am aloud to skate in the rink. If I just went to the ramps once I'm healed 100%, I would definitely get hurt as my muscles, ligaments and tendons would not be strong for it. Exercise increases circulation and helps it to heal. The spasms I'm getting are from using it and will only go away from using it/breaking down the scar tissue.

Yes. No. I had a MRI in order to discover the 2 tears. It wasn't bad enough for PT according to the doctor. He just suggested rest and caution. However, I wait tables and am on my feet every day. I could feel weakness in my knees for some time.

I had a friend who went back to skating before he was healed, and he blew his knee out immediately! Since then, I'm overly cautious. Since then, my knee has felt as strong as it ever had, until my latest injury. :( I'm still sitting here with my brace on ......waiting.....

Not bad enough, 2 years? To me that is very extreme!!!! Wow, really PT strengthens in a safe way. If you can do it at all, do it. It will hasten the recovery time remarkably. Some pain is good and needed to recovery, other is detrimental but a PT can tell you what to do. I'm sure if you went 2 weeks and continued on your own, you would have been back in 4 months. If your Dr. doesnt recommend PT this time, find another!! My leg became an inch smaller just weeks after the surgery. Strength, mobility, all goes fast after an injury.
