dropping in GSL first time
: Literally! I got there and stretched :-) and then the guys were packing up. So I asked the dude if he could video me before they left and that forced me to hurry up and drop in. So heres the first time I dropped in that bowl. The fist water fall you get air off of so it kinda threw me off. I've never rolled a bowl this big so the 2nd deep area kinda freaked me out.

:
: Heres the 2nd time going in. You can see more the bowl. THe first section I carve is 6' deep, 2nd is 9 feet deep. My leg still hurts so probably wont skate for a full week now :`( so I can really skate next time so thats why I am kinda skating just one leg lol. The deep end it gets rough so that threw me off. After they left I figured its better to go to the center, pump to get speed for the hump then later I will go over that hump. I didnt even get to catch many lines of them before they were gone. But kept it easy so I could feel the bowl first time. I dont care for the rough corner, just not used to it yet and 9' wall kinda freaks me out since thats close to the one I broke my arm on so kinda freeze on it for now. So give me a few and I'll have something more interesting to post. Not much to show, but this bowl is really rad!! Feels good just wish the deep end was smoother. I will TRY to get my butt out of bed before it gets so stinking hot and everyone is packing for home next time.

: Since I get bored easily lol, decided to ride my uni off road first time so heres me swatting the flies as I go down a 20 degree hill with some roots, grass and small rocks to go over. I NEED to learn to stop and hop so I can go over those yellow car things. Then stop at the tennis courts and hop around to go UP the hill but kinda lazy there today lol. If I dont learn to hop soon I will PLOW those barriers with the bigger uni! SMASH lol.

: So speaking of HOT, my butt pads make my butt sweat like mad! Do they make ones with air conditioning lol? The kids were like why so many pads. Well, gotta lol. So hopefully leg will be fine by next week and I can jump with the unicycle. I'm going to start a HUGE painting of Irene tomorrow, I'm a super lucky girl!!

Way to go, Claudine! That's Awesome stuff. I'm jealous of that bowl! You looked good skating it too. Fairly comfortable. I agree with Biff, you may wanna not lean/hunch so much except when actually pumping. However, whatever, you need to do to keep on your sk8s (i.e shoulders over your wheels) while learning new/bigger transistions, you should do. I' also put one sk8 on coping before dropping in.Usually me left, but not always.
Looked. Good. Uni looked crazy.
Don't get hurt.

Wow, Claudine, looks great! You're doing awesomely great!

I 'm impressed that you put only one foot on the coping when dropping. That's much better than putting both on the coping. You'd loose too much speed that way. Personally, I'd put the forefoot (in your case as in mine: the right one) one the coping. I believe the rear foot is better suited to give you an additional impulse. But other skaters may have a different opinion on that.

Your unicycling is crazy but you probably have everyone here flabbergasted because no one else here can do it!

Thumbs up! I'm so glad that you can skate again. Don't get hurt!

Thank you Bernhard!! This was my first time going to a non kidney shaped bowl really. Since the guys were leaving, I had to push myself just to jump in it lol.

It really throws you off first time as you have to just roll to understand the nuances of the bowl. I thought the first dip when I got some unexpected air I might lose balance but it was OK. I am trying to stay not hurt so I dont skate long and will take the week off since my hamstring is still a touch sore. I see my ortho dr. tomorrow so will see if he has any advice. I tried not to use it so its better to roll then try tricks now as the explosive moves kill it. I think I need to get more endurance first. I have none lol! Maybe street skate so my muscles get in shape? I took almost a full year off and got very out of shape.

I always step on coping and jump on in. I am right foot forward so thats the foot I jump on in with. Like I mentioned, I've learned alone so I have no idea what is right/wrong lol. Its so much fun though! I really love the big bowl. Next time I will get more speed and go over that hump. I just didnt want to use my leg much today. And thanks for letting me share my beginnings. :-D

The uni is fun but like I mentioned, little endurance now lol. I also havent developed the coordination to hop yet unless I start next to my car. I hope soon! As I can ride trails then.

That's great that you can go skate there!

You might want to try using the deep end, or the shallow end, for practicing pumping to gain more height. Don't lean over quite so much, except when pumping. As you pump, you'll straighten your body out while you push down into the transition in order to help accelerate you to the top of the coping.

It seems hard at first, but once you get the hang of it, you'll find that it helps you to conserve energy, as well as allow you to skate right out of the bowl, without having to climb out.

Good work.

I wasnt really trying to pump since my hamstring is strained, but thanx for the advice! I probably shouldnt have skated so I tried to not do much. I'll wait to take a video when my leg isnt hurting.

ITs a really cool bowl! But I have only really skated the bowls at Greenbelt. I only skated 10 months before the accident so still pretty new! I didnt grow up on rollerskates unfortunately.

When I tried a new bowl and ripped it right away was when I broke my arm. So I wont try to go fast or up far up the wall til I know how the bowl rolls. I already know what is not safe for me. Theres too many subtle changes in some bowls that can really throw you if you have speed and not the experience yet. I just try to stay in a solid stance til then since like Robert, I try not to fall nowadays. But I will wait until I know the bowl before I take another video and really start to pump it and get some speed. I went ahead and took one very green since I'm hoping a newbie might see it and not feel intimadated.

I'm going to try to rest my leg, lol, so that I can use it next weekend too. My hamstrings been strained so I've been trying to lay low.......otherwise I would have gone to the other bowl and tried some handplants today lol. I have more energy then my body is ready for. :-( I hope I dont die of boredom trying to rest......lol.

Its really good advice though, thanx, I do appreciate it.
