Irene's time in Sin City and thanks to everyone who came out to sk8 in SD
Hey Skaters!
Let me say it's been TOO long since I've visited the Forum, but I've been BUSY working, baby & SKATING!!!
1st let me say to Robert: Thanks SO much for your Kind Words & for showing us around your fine city AND for introducing me ( Duke & Des knew him already from back in the day) to Jamie. He's a really nice guy & seems to REALLY love vertical skating. That makes him alright in my book!
2nd to BeerHunter: I know about the Tongue, but I can't seem to help it. :( It's involuntary. IN fact, I grazed my upper teeth on my tongue on a fall I took in Memorial Park's pool Sunday when I got silly & rolled in Side-Stance. Had I clamped down with my bottom teeth.....oy vay.
3rd: I haven't even downloaded my camera into my laptop yet from SoCal, let alone uploaded them onto 'net! So busy! But I DO have a couple choice clips from Irene's time here in Sin City before SoCal.....my San Diego stuff will have to wait.... until then the following will have to Suffice.
But I'd like to say a couple things 1st.....
I know I've said it before, & I'm sure it sounds trite, but I Honestly mean it when I say the Nicest, Most Creative, Genuine INDIVIDUALS I've ever known have been on 8 Wheels. I feel so Privileged to be able to call so many of you my True Friends.
Thanks to Irene for coming out to hang, of course to sk8! & for watching my Precious little Ryder so Dawnie & I could go out & have some Fun. I love you like a Sister & you KNOW you are Welcome in our Home ANYTIME you like.
Thanks to the Rennies; Duke Karen & Chris, for coming out on a busy weekend (they're packing to move into their new house!) to sk8 & play with the Traveling Cloetens Clan! We, like everyone else, LOVE the Rennies!
Thanks to Robert for suggesting parks giving me heads-up on where the Hassles would be or where the lights weren't & for just coming out & skating. Robert, your 1-Sk8 Truck grinds on the pool coping are F*#king BadAss. That's a trick I may start working on just because the sound is so cool! I love the way you take your inside foot off the wall & really commit to the truck grind.
Desi Jones: Thanks for not only coming off your Paradisaical Island to Frolic & Sk8, but you brought the Rennies with you! You were skating really well, Brother. It's no Surprise why you're the Newest sponsored Vert-Skater to date. Powell is lucky to have you! And so are we. :) One of these days we WILL invade Catalina & abuse your Hospitality! I promise !
Jamie, we didn't get that much time to talk, after all we were there to sk8, right?! But you impressed me with your skating AND your handling of the Washington St issue. I hope you make it out to Vegas like we discussed. There are LOTS of parks here with big & small obstacles. I'm sure we could find a few that you'd like to sk8. Thanks for hanging. I'm sorry you missed the HotTub portion of the evening AND had to drive to Mexico, but it was worth it, right? LOL! Seriously it was great meeting you & I look forward to skating with you again soon. I hope you start to post to the Forum as I find it's an invaluable tool for something that is not only my Sport, but my Passion. You'll be surprised at what you might learn through other skaters here. Like this weekend Robert made me realize (after polling Desi) that it would appear as if we Parallel Skaters all do our handplants with our hands turned at opposite directions (see pic Robert recently posted of me with my tongue out) while the side-surfers keep them in the same direction. Will this info ever be useful??? doubtful, but interesting. To me anyway.
OK. So the videos........And since you guys have all seen me at these 2 parks numerous times this is all Sister Irene.

Here she is @ Anthem in the section I refer to as the "Combi" section.

Clip 2:

These clips are from my Patented HelmetCam. I'm trailing Irene through Anthem here. This was pretty hilarious as neither of us knew where the other was going so we nearly collided a couple times. But we didn't. We're, like, Pros. LOL!

Clip 1:

Clip 2:

Here I make Irene wear my patented HelmetCam. You can see me drop-in after Irene's run is over so I can shut the camera off. LOL!

Now here's some Vert ramp action. You can clearly see that this is Irene's comfort zone. I'm not saying she can't sk8 pools or mini or street. Because she can! But she, like me, justs feels at Home on a vert ramp. And it shows.

Clip 2:

Does she Kick Ass or what?! She does. So I'm still waiting to add that I. Ching card to my wall of Fame...... get on it, Girl!
OK, Kids, I'll try to get the SoCal stuff organized & posted by this weekend......sorry I'm slacking but I'm a busy dude this week.
Best to All. Keep Rollin' on 8!
PEACE...................................Jay

This is not a parallel vs. side-stance issue. The most common stance here in Europe is parallel and the German roller skaters I remember all kept their hands in the same direction when doing two-handed handplants. They also really stalled them which I think has more to do with this observation on the orientation of the hands.

Have a look at e.g. Olaf Hennig

or Diesy Knauder

Too right MrB,unless you got them facing the same direction you are never gona get fully inverted. It,s kind of a cross between an invert and a layback air,,but kicking out backwards. But at the end of the day if it feels good,,do it.Still looks rad.

cheers joe

Jay: Thanks for the Insights, Boys... (12. Nov. 2009 06:28)
  Joe, Mr. B.,
I appreciate the insights AND the pics. I guess it's a Lazy Parallel American thing then! I'll work on getting my left hand turned in the same direction as my right & getting fully inverted. I've only just barely learned laybacks & wasn't even able to manage one while in SoCal. But Irene saw me get 3 @ Area 702 before that! So I'm claiming 'em even if the film doesn't support me yet! LOL!
Keep posting your Killer Pics. I'd REALLY love to some video of you busting some of your stuff, Bro...I mean 'mate! Your Frontside Aerials are ridiculous & I wanna see that McTwist.
Enjoy Spring, Mate!

Why thanx partner, will try and get some vid to post up.Most doods I skate with are skating too and pic up the cam for a short spell in between runs.Vidio seems to be a bit moretime consuming.
By the by theres nothing at all wrong with your handplants,I guess were just offering some variations.
