My name is Allan, i live in Ayrshire in Scotland.

I did come here about 5 years ago when i first got into ramp riding on quads, after I\'d saw some pictures of Irene Ching (I\'d heard her name mentioned in a roller rink by some skaters so looked her up online).

Had a break for a few years now as I\'ve had a daughter, but now she\'s at the age to start learning and enjoying coming to skateparks with me I\'ve strapped back on my skates and am starting to get back into it.

Currently working on a new skate build which Biff has kindly been advising me on, hope to have it finished by next week.

Also managed to find my old skate vid which I thought I\'d lost when my PC went mental.

Hahaha, love the falls at the end. I'm good at those!
Welcome back!!

I wish there were some tiny spines like that to go over as I want to ride over the spine this summer. I dont have the guts to try new things yet cause of the broken arm deal I went through. I hope I can get the guts soon.

There\'s a good sized concrete skatepark about 14 miles from my house called Evolution, so only takes me about 15mins to drive up there. If it\'s too busy there\'s also a good few mini metal parks which are good for practising.

The only real problem is noone seems to ride quads over here anymore (it\'s all inlines now). Some kids at the skatepark were even confused when they saw mines as they\'d never seen quads before, and certainly never seen them ridden on ramps.
Kinda makes you feel like an outcast, but I don\'t like inlines (Nearly every inliner seems to ask why I don\'t just get a set of blades, to which i always reply I just prefer the feel and style quad offers).

Welcome, although I haven't been around here for long, either.
Biff and everyone here are indeed very kind to help. Their experience save us a lot of trouble. Maybe starting a thread like I did would be a good idea.
I like that spine you have there. should be great for practicing for the bigger ones.

Know what bladers used to say about xsjados? They called the frames without the middle wheels cheating, because it was easier to grind. Fuck bladers.
I never felt like a blader anyway. What blader likes to surf pools and doesn't do street? Just do your thing, that's what skateparks are for.

Hi Allen. Welcome (back) to the Forum!
I liked your video, but the pic of you with your daughter on sk8s @ the sk8park, AWESOMENESS!
I also especially liked the fact that hearing Irene's name @ a roller-rink is what got you into skating as she's a very special person to me & a very cool friend. She also happens to be this year's flier girl for my little rollerskating event I host here in Las Vegas annually:

2010 RC Sk8Park Tour

If you have the means to attend, by all means consider yourself officially invited. Although I know it's only 2 months hence & therefore prohibitively expensive, so my feelings won't be hurt if you can't make it. :)

Also, I invite you (& EVERYBODY ELSE who frequents our beloved Forum here!) to join my, I'm sorry OUR online "world" I've recently created on Gravity. It's a place to discuss ALL things rollerskate. While NOT a substitute for the Forum, I think, with some help/content from you all, it has potential......for instance you can easily share threads onto your favorite social networking spaces (Biff, I know YOU don't have a MySpace or Facebook or Twitter, but most of us do! LOL!) Check it out here:

http://www.gravity.com/rollerskate

And, Allen, as to the bladers & groms who either hate or look at you with bewilderment @ the sk8parks: ignore 'em & just sk8 harder!.
Everytime I go to the park I get that. So do most of us. I usually have to explain to kids that my sk8s aren't weird old rollerblades, they're rollersk8s! I've even had kids ask me how I thought of taping sk8board trucks onto my shoes! Just sk8 & enjoy. And, again, welcome to the Forum.
PEACE
Jay

Hi Allan, it is nice to see another rollerskater on here. I think it is extremely cool to have so many skaters from around the world. It's funny because I always have the kids asking about my rollerblades. I pretty much just go with it and don't explain I have rollerskates. My buddy Jamie is really funny because he just says "what rollerblades, I don't see rollerblades". lol I liked your video. I don't know how you do a handstand or handplant on that little quarter pipe.

Indeed it is, it\'s right next to the leisure centre. You also have Sandylands holiday park directly across from it (Where I worked as a security back in 2007).

I like "Vertic Al", nice handle.
Been off the internet grid here for a bit, just too many sites to keep up with and it's more time consuming than I can spare. Apologies to all.
I'm soo stoked you're back on your rollers and that you have your daughter to train and skate with. She's adorable. Shocking to hear myself mentioned at a roller rink, I think I've skated rinks maybe twice in my life... I love being outdoors too much. I remember seeing Quadimodo years ago, so rad!
Happy you've reconnected here on Bernard's fabulous forum, so near and dear to my heart, for uniting all of us rollers.
Welcome back!!!

Maybe he would come out and skate if he where a roller skater. It seems to me that roller skaters are more likely to stick to their trade.

When I talk to some roller skaters of days gone by it's often the case that their memory is much fonder and the wish to do it again stronger than for skateboarder who have stopped skating. There are a lot of ex-skateboarder who did it because it was a fad. I have the impression there are where few vert roller skater who did it because it was a fad.

:

more and more skateboarders are coming back after long layoffs... 10-20 yrs later.
i suspect many do things as fads and never return.
many have families now and dropout til the kids are bigger
the passion for it never dies for most who\'ve had the blessing of the experience

Maybe you are right and my perception has partly to do with me wanting those roller skaters to come back. Now that I think of it: There are also skateboarder where it's the same. Maybe it's just who we had good sessions with.

First, you'd need to bleach them close to white, and then dye them yellow. I'd suggest just sewing on some yellow materialthough, until you can afford to actually buy them 'stock' yellow. I know Wild Bill does custom colors / orders.

The convo they were having at the rink was actually about all kinds of quad skating, and your name came up when they were talking bout people who ride quads on ramps.

Whats crazier is when i mentioned your name to my wife she says shes heard your name before too. Shes a Portsmouth native and when i showed her the vid of Jay Tubbs rockin the halfpipe at Southsea skatepark she thinks she remembers him hanging about with the bmxer Dennis Wingham. (She used to hang out at the skatepark as her brothers an avid bmxer, and she also rides quads, though just recreationally) Maybe that's where she heard your name.

Small world eh?
