Side Stance
I just visited Brian Wainwright website for the first time and I am very excited. This guy is amazing. I am very curious about the side stance. Do you guys ride side stance? I ride parellel and would have never thought it possible to ride like that but I do see the advantages. I started trying to ride side stance on flat ground and am starting to be comfortable going frontside and turning but the thought of taking it into the ramp scares me. My final question is on a different subject: What kind of trucks do you use? Rollerskate or skateboard? I cant decide which to use. With the narrow rollerskate trucks I can roll on the coping of a ramp but with skateboard trucks I could grind....

Merry xmas

I do ride parallel. I have tried side stance but not with much success. Most vert skaters I have known ride/rode parallel. However, several side stance riders do come to my mind: Brian (of course), Bo Elsbol, Lars and Arne Languth (the twins), Holger Sander and more. Bo even rode inlines side stance (I haven't seen anyone else doing this).

Regarding the trucks: I still use the ones which can be seen in my text on how to built vertical roller skates. Those are Gullwing freestyle skateboard trucks. I think freestyle trucks are hard to obtain nowadays.

Happy New Year and keep on sk8ing!

thanks for your interest... and kind words. How is the side stance coming? Can you generate speed riding in side stance yet? When rollerskating was huge in California back in the late '70's and into the '80's most of the guys rode side stance, being a skateboarder already, it made sense to me too, so I just figured it out. The frontside and backside benifits are worthy of the time it takes to get it going. Grinding is great!! Carve grinding is awesome!!! Tracker still makes their freestyle trucks... both the Mid-Track and the Full-Track are still available. Check them out at TrackerTrucks.com
I have some short video's available if you would like to see the side stance put to use. Just drop me an email and we will work it out. roll on Brian

Thank you for the hint on Tracker. I have added their address to the resources page.

Go Side-surf, what we used to call it. I started parallel, like everyone else. Being with skateboarders, and borrowing their tricks and styles, sideways makes more sense. A true frontside and backside (you can't see coping) makes it more fun and challenging. Just keep going around things on flat ground, take some curving S-hills and really work going around things frontside on the ground, try jumping over stuff on flat in the side position. Give it a try on the ramps, it gets easier. Any questions?

Try eBay. I found my ACS 580 trucks there. Search for freestyle skateboard trucks, like Gullwing, Trackers, Independents, Bennetts.
