Skating is a pain in the ...
Thanks for the good wishes.

You are right that sitting a lot isn't really good for my tailbone problem. The orthodedist recommended to buy an inflatable cushion, which I did. I think it helps and I hope that my tailbone settles again someone. At the moment it seems to be irritated quite easily.

At least for me. I got my tail-bone x-rayed today to diagnose some pain I have there for some time now. And the x-ray showed that the last part has been luxated as they call it. Must have happend some 25 years ago when I landed a 2.5 m fakie air straight on the ass. To make it really effective I hit some real concrete. Old war wounds ... I will try to see a specialist as soon as possible but there probably isn't much that can be done. :-(

I've been skating twice this year already. Once with Alex, another roller skater.

I don't know if they can fix my tailbone. The doctor who diagnosed it didn't think so, but I hope that an expert can do at least something about it. Did you also have your tailbone dislodged?

I hope you will be able to skate soon and have no injuries!

On april 15th the skatepark opens, I just cant afford transportation anymore besides the local kiddie skatepark now. and my sculpture I had sold was stolen so I'm SOL right now. Gas is very expensive right now so I can hardly use my car anymore. But its warming up and YES I will be roller skating soon!! I really missed it this winter.

My tailbone cracked and healed on its own twice and also bruised it a few times. I found out though that my bones never fully fused as a baby, guess I'm lucky my spinal cord was ok as I could have been born paralyzed but they never said I would have problems with this issue or it would be a problem. They just told me it didnt fully fuse. I wear one inch thick pads and a piece of plastic to cover my tailbone since women our pelvis tilts out more also exposing this moreso then men.

Unfortunately they cant put your butt in a cast. I sat with my butt hanging over a phone book or on a donut for over a month for it to heal. I hope not to injure myself as I dont have insurance to cover an orthopedic dr now. I would have to go to the ER and pray for help if something breaks! There isnt anything I can do but pray that Obama and his healthcare for all plan somehow goes through but most people oppose the poor getting healthcare. I am just an artist now. I still want to skate because I still need to live life and be happy somehow as isnt that what life is for, living? I wish you the best! Unfortunately, even with healthcare, drs cant perform miracles. I hope you can figure something out to enjoy skating as much as possible. Keep us (or me) posted. Enjoy whatever you can do because there is no guarantee that tomorrow our health will be there to continue I've learned.

I am very enraged to hear that your sculpture has been stolen! This is really sad.

Mine kind of healed, too, back when it happened 25 years ago. But now it has come back to haunt me. Probably a consequence of my knee injury and me limping around asymmetrically. This probably shifted the tailbone a bit and now it it sore.

Ii is so sad that you still have no public health system in the US. I will have to pay the ortho doctor myself, however, since she is not approved by public insurance. But since the people who mended my knee recommended her I hope that she is good at what she is doing.

Well the good news is I found out today I got the sculpture scholarship for next year! So thats good, I hope my sculpture shows up somehow....

I thought of something. If its from a malalignment, have you thought of a chiropractor? Just a thought.... I hope you figure something out.

Great news about the scholarship! I hope that your sculpture turns up, too.

Yes, I thought about a chiropractor too, though it's a rare beast in Europe. I've been told that you only can study this profession in the US. But I first wait to hear the opinion of the orthopedist I'm seeing tomorrow. Maybe she can do something, too.

You are welcome, Claudine! I find that lots of bad things always happen. Just gotta try and stay positive and realize when something really good has come your way.

For all the other things......there's MasterCard.

Beware with the tail bone: doctors need to grip the bone with 2-3 fingers on both sides to manipulate it...it's better to know it a bit in advance ;-)

cheers

I've heard the opinion of an orthopedist today. She can't do anything since it's a very old injury and the bones have grown together. It could be sawed off chirugically as a last resort. :-(

Now I hope it will settle again somehow so that I won't notice it. Maybe I should crash on it again and break it again. ;)

I wish you a fast recovery Bernhard. I sometime have these pains during the night, without skating. Maybe if you spend a lot of time working on a seat doesn't help: chosing a good seat could be better. For R'sk8ting, I use a light crashpad to damp impacts.

cheers
