 After years out of the pool, I am building a new set of skates and getting back in. Anyone with any ideas/suggestions for set-ups let me know. Got wheels and Boots and am looking for Truck/Plate suggestions. I used to run Sure Grip plates with Tracker Freestyle trucks-haven't been able to find those around.

Are there no Tracker freestyle trucks to be had on EBay? I have Gullwings on my skates. I just use some aluminium plate as a base, but you could also use some cut-outs from an old pair of skis. Or you could by some plates from Gambin. He also has trucks. Did you already hava a look at the how-tos on this site?

 Thanks for the quick reply. I live in San Francisco and have been feeling the urge again after skating on four wheels for too long. Eight was always better for me...I'll look on e-Bay and Check out Gambin Site as well. Pretty stoked to see that some of the skaters I used to ride with are still out there. I just Messaged Duke Rennie, it'll be the first time I have talked to him since something like '81. Glad the Quad scene is still alive.

 What a coincidence that you live in San Francisco. I just phoned with another vert roller skater from Germany, who moved into this area. He's not actively skating at the moment, but always starts to dream of starting again when we talk on the phone. Maybe he will when he hears that there are more roller skaters in the San Francisco area ...

COOL!!! Couple ideas coming at you...

Cut snow skis for plates and attach Ace mid-Track skateboard trucks (approx 109 mm truck width). Additionally, you might want to fashion some sliders to attach to the plate, in-between the trucks, for sliding rails and coping.

Skis are flexible, strong, resilient, and absorb shock that metal plates would not absorb. Skateboard trucks last a long time and grind really well.

 Great to hear there is another quad-skate fiend here in SF. We have some great parks and I ber if he gets back in the pool we'll see one another there!

 Thanks for the reply. It's really awesome to see that the Quad Community is so engaged. I think I found a post where you showed how you built your skates-true? I will be keeping in touch as my skate build comes together and hope that I'll have something to show off really soon. Then of course, I'll need to get my butt back into the pool.

 As Biff said, try to get some second-hand skis. I'm not a veteran as yourself, but I succesfully built my quads more than a year ago. If you get stuck anywhere in the building process, don't hesitate to give a shout here, we're helpful and experienced.

BTW, is there some kind of description how to build those great plates of yours? I can't remember at the moment and I also do not want to search the forum for it. It would be great to have such a description on a place where it can easily be found, like the Howto section of this site here.

 Hey doods the material is 3mm (1/8"??) aluminum Chanel cut to the length of your boot, the base plates just fit in width wise perfectly so you position them where you feel suits best(heel and ball of foot for me) then you cut away what ever is gona foul the axis of the hanger.All very easily done with a drill and a jigsaw.I literally made these in my backyard on an upturned milk crate with the tools mentioned.
The price, weight, strength, ease of manufacture and how low the profile of these things is awesome. I did do a build thingy on here a few years ago but would take much trolling to find,, but troll away if you got the time cos there's much rad reading to be had. I read from the latest post back to the first ever post for hours with butterfly's raging in my guts the first time I found this forum.Do it..

 Thanks all for the encouraging words. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Also-I work in the outdoor industry and if anybody needs used skis for plates, give a holler. i can see if our techs have anything usable.

You skates are epic
Tis looks the same like my old setup but only mine was not open on the grindside
But the question is; what is the baseplate material.... just alluminium or somthing else ,or do you also sale those plates?

Indeed, Joes design is very interesting. I like the minimality. I think it is aluminium, but he can tell for sure. Maybe he wrote it someplace else in the forum.

 Hey MrB and Max always lurking, just not skating much at the mo,, to busy with work and life. Yep its definately aluminium and its the cheapest easiest way to avoid fuging it up.I'll always build em like that now, I cant fault them.

 Sounds like a plan. Apologies for missing you on your last trip, will try harder next time, working and living in Sydney at the moment, doing 12 hour days so no time for skating and back home to my family every 2 weeks.Gota make hay while the sun shines.

But you right about the hay.

I haven't been to Sydney on my last trip to Australia. Went to Perth to see Wave Rock and the Pinnacles and to Darwin to see Kakadu National Park and did a long bus trip to Alice Springs to see the Devils Marbles. My stay in the middle of nowhere at Wauchope Hotel actually was the most memorable part.

 Yep its a beautiful country. I'm working on a high rise building over looking Sydney harbor and the weather is awesome nearly every day whilst Melb's is shitfull. Flying back this weekend to see my girls so i'm stoked bout that.
