Walking through town yesterday I found a Rollerskate (NOT AN INLINE) displayed in a shop window! Something I havenīt seen in years! Maybe it is really coming back?
It wasnīt a vert skate, just a disco skate, but with good wheels and real trucks!
What a sight!

I know at least one other shop in Germany which offers roller skates (although they do call them "quads"). In Switzerland, however, roller skates have been available all the time. You also can get them in USA and maybe elsewhere. It seems that only the Germans have banned them during the inline boom. OK, they have also seen roller skates as little girls' toys before then. What the heck.

I have only seen some scenes from the new Rollerball movie. I couldn't see for sure if those guys were on roller skates or on inlines.

From the clips and website I've seen, they're all on inlines. Too bad.

They didn't know when they produced the film. They seem to have noticed, however, since on the clips it is hard to recognize that they use inlines.

You can see in that picture they are definitely inlines.
They appear to be aggressive skates too, not the sort of skate you would expect in a roller derby type sport. Probably better for the stunts they were doing. (Real roller skates would have been better.)

Sketchers (a sneaker/casual shoe company) has recently put out a sneaker rollerskate. Before this, some company put out a sneaker with pop out wheels, like quads but the wheels are 1.5 inches in diameter, a real toy skate. Rollerskates in the US, seem to be resurfacing lately, but I don't think they'll be as trendy as they were in the late 70's through mid-80's.

The original was a bad-ass movie back then. I heard the new one really sucks. And, sadly, it's all inlining. A few local NYC inliners made it into the movie, with a few speaking lines (yes, they know how to speak). I'd rather spend my cash on "MVP2" which stars a skateboarding chimpanzee who drops into and really skates a vert ramp. It took 8 weeks to train him to do it.

Dogtown and Z Boys is to be out in theatres April 26.

What's up with the double toe stoppers? One on each end of the skate, 2 per foot, 4 to replace them all at one time!???

I guess you could take one off and use it as a spare one! People need brakes on them. I see Inline chicks looking for walls and lantern masts to break all the time...bad bad situation if there is none around...probably 80% of all inliners over here do not know how to stop!

The one at the rear is for braking while going downhill. It's more effective than dragging a foot behind you, unless you're into skating downhill backwards. (I do that occassionally for something different. Make sure the intersection at the bottom is clear before you start out though.) :)
