: Cool. Really long wheelbase on those skates. How would they handle for turning and fitness skating?

They aren't suited to fitness skating. The wheels are to hard for the street. Also they don't turn really well.

Re:cutting toes off of inline boots

This is just a thought. Has anyone considered using a pair of goalie skates with the blades removed? They have a leather boot which would give one a good snug fit, as well as a plastic outer shell which would provide excellent protection from bangs and bruises. I don't know about the States, but here in Canada there are lots of used sporting goods stores where one could pick up a pair at a decent price. (New ones would be a small fortune)

 Hi Dave,

I have to admit that I didn't know a thing about the specifics of goalie skates. Your idea doesn't sound too bad to me, so why not give it a try? You're bound to learn lots of things you never would have thought of. I used a pair of used ice hockey skate myself and ripped off the blades. The boots I'm using now are also ice hockey boots but they never had blades mounted to them. I bought them directly from the manufacturer, Fesl. I would buy some other boots now, however. Mine are too inflexible at the heels.

I doubt I'll get to try it myself. Skates my size are usually a special order item, let alone finding goalie skates that fit. Any used skates my size usually come up only because the previous owner has passed away. (Us big people can't afford to get rid of things that fit :))

I knew one vert rollerskater in hockey boots, but he played ice hockey, so it made sense. I find high boots too restrictive, hence the speed skating boots (ankle height). I don't find ankle support a problem in these boots.

Funny, I have an old pair of rollerblades, which I am intending on cutting off just the toes to attach to my new Riedell boots. I will need to pad them on the inside for some toe protection (I slammed my toe into the vert really hard once, my toe turned colors) and just to protect the boots from scuffs and wear from knee sliding (no more duct tape). I guess I'll glue them on or attach them somehow.
For us, it's whatever works with whatever we can get our hands on.

Good luck and post a photo when you're done!

K2 sells replacement toe caps for their agrressive inline skates. They work really well and with just a little bit of trimming the whole thing slides between my boot and plate as if it was made just for that purpose. I have used shoe goo to put leather on my toes, duct taped them, etc... but nothing has looked as clean and worked as well as these.

I tried getting these from Matt Lacrosse at K2 (referred by Kelly M), but no luck. What to do?
