That is a Riedell Carrera.
Riedell still makes the Carrera, but slightly different now. (see pic)

I think I like to have those as street tools. But with a longer base. The shoes on my street skates are coming apart. :-(

Can you tell me why the longer base? Like I posted, debating this myself. I donno yet.

I once had a base this short. I mounted it like shown in the pictue, i.e. flush with the rear. I has the problem you described. i.e. too little stability in front. Didn't like it at all and got me a longer base.

So there seem to be at least three schools of thought:

- long base
- short base flush with rear
- short base flush with front (there are some french and canadian roller skaters doing it this way)

I have a short base and the plate is kinda centered. So its between the 2nd and 3rd one I guess. Does allow me to get on my toes well and dampens any hits of rocks. I think I might try a full base plate for skatepark next time around. I dont get on my toes, least not now. Would it interfere with carving the bowls? Does it cause the skates to rattle?

After taking my art boots on the asphalt, I really dont recommend the short plates flush to the rear nor metal plates either!
