Don't worry Tobi. I knew you were speaking rhetorically.

Actually, I find the present version boring in comparison to the way it used to be. The emphasis was more on skating and stunt skills, rather than the soap opera dished out today. To each their own.

I know this goes way off topic from ramp skating but since Irene expressed an interest in Roller Derby I thought I'd post this.

This ought to set back respect for women by about 20 years. Probably entertaining though. :)

Women who go their way, without letting bigots limit their freedom of expression and pursuit of happiness, definitely deserve respect.

 Thanks, Dave

I really got a kick out of it! I was wondering how long it would take for someone to get the idea of bringing back roller derby. Being an old-timer, as a kid, I loved watching rollerderby, and the women were by far much more entertaining. I'm sure this modern day version will reveal more flesh and top-heavy types, as well as flashier team uniforms. My bet is on the Putas del Fuego team. Funny places to purchase tiks...too bad it's in Texas, but where else would it be?

I'm not a bigot Tobi (actually the term in this case would be chauvinist) and I also think these women can do whatever they please. My only concern is the hokey way this venture is being presented. I would like to see roller derby presented more closely to a legitimate sport (it did originally start out that way back in the depression) instead of all the WWF (now WWE) type makeup and theatrics.
Somebody in California was trying to start up a legit roller derby league (an actual sport) a couple of years ago, but I haven't heard if he got anywhere.

It would be cool to see Irene get into the roller derby. She could do some 360's and hand plants over top of the pack.

Great! That's really great.

I think there's room for both. It's not as if they're trying to pursue this as an olympic discipline, and I don't see why they should; as far as I can see, their objective is simply a different one (not a lesser one).

Others can develop "legit leagues" themselves if they want to.

: legit roller derby league (an actual sport)

To me personally, that sounds boring.

there were a few attempts at ramp/obstacle/rollerderby like shows on inline skates. i think one was called "blade warriors"
none did very well
i'm not sure i've ever considered rollerderby a serious sport.
how about a show with animals who can do tricks on rollerskates?

I remember the show you're talking about. It was called W.A.R. (World Association of Rollergames). It lasted 1 season. It featured the "Wall of Death" a 20 foot high ramp, and the alligator pit that the captain of the losing team was thrown into. All the skaters were wearing real roller skates too. It was made into a Nintendo game. If I get a chance I'll try to get a screenshot of it and post it.

Actually, I do think that stuff which is interesting to vertical roller skaters can't be so far off topic.
