: I was told there are no fast quads so I would have to switch to inlines.

That might be the case. But there are fast roller skates! And in the half pipe and in the bowls, roller skates are way faster than inlines. That's because you can use bigger and harder wheels.

: I dont like inlines. I cant make them turn right, they arent fun.

That's true.

: I think I will stop speed skating instead.

Do they make you stop because they hassle you?

I just checked out the link to that gathering and you all were ripping it up so hard! Irene, I knew you were good, but I just read your bio and am very impressed. I did not know you did the inline thing. I think you did it during the same time I did. I don't know if this is true, but it has been said to me by my skateboard buddies that the inliners of today are very disrespectful and think they are the shit. I would love to school them, but I just don't seem to have the skills these days. Well, I think I just don't have the balls because I know I could make my old tricks, but I am too scared. Can someone get me a tissue?

Always obliged to help out a fellow vertical roller skater. ;-) But I think you are doing fine. Just be careful that you don't get injured again!

They made me inline for those coupla contests way back when. So I would practice on my rollerskates until contest time, told them to give me a few minutes to change into my inlines skates to do my contest runs, then put my rollerskates back on. I usually only entered to ride the vert, unless there were good prizes (cash $$$) to inspire me to win. One inline contest was won by a rollerskater from Switzerland on his inlines, Ivano G???, he got $500 cash. I took first in womens, but only paid $250 cash. Gender counts, I guess. It was all good tho, all fun stuff. I also took first in a womens masters division (25 years and older) snowboarding event. My skateboarder buddy took first in the mens masters. Ah, memories...

That is so cool! I don't know how you could just switch to inlines and ride vert. When I first stood on inlines I could barely stand up. After several months of getting used to them, I was able to do all of my rollerskate tricks.

Ivano Gagliardo was the name. I saw him in Lausanne in 1999.

Indeed, indeed. We are always happy to have some women at our half pipe contest in Freiburg, but more often than not, they are too few to warant a group of their own.

Speed inlines with 100mm wheels are way faster then any quads out there! Plus, the floor there is really slick and I cannot find a roller skating wheel for my weight that grips enough to give me traction to push off the floor. I have no grip cause I'm so small and the floor is slicker then concrete even. I dont want to buy anything else right now either. I tried on a girls pair of inlines, and her wheels felt like rakes, mine its halfway to ice so I cant put any power in my skates. They are redoing the floor I was told.

Quads arent prohibited yet, but they certainly arent included really. They are discouraged. Most teams I was told prohibit quads since we "get in the way". They just keep telling me I need to switch to speed inlines if I want to get any speed.

The rinks I'm way too fast so not sure what I can do during the week to get in shape for the next month. The parks are too far to drive after work to have time to skate much and there is snow/ice outside so not much if a chance to skate outside. I cant seem to motivate myself to lift weights or ride my bike on rollers now. Can I borrow some of Roberts tissues?
