a question on pumping
: : : My skateboarder buddy always swings his arms back, palms facing back, then swings them forward while carving around the lip. Is this how to go faster? I just squat and push up through the curve, but would be nice to get more speed. I can post another picture showing this cause he always does this but I think I overposted on pics, so sorry Bernhard! You are awesome!! I'll put them all up on my website, just my arm hurts now.
: :
: : Using your arms to pump is very nececary to get good speed.
: : Watch any skater who is having a go and you will notice that they generaly swing their arms forward and up as they pump down and up the trany.
: : I was thinking about you the other day and I recon at this stage that if you start learning to turn both ways, it will become very natural and alow you to cut nice lines in any trany situation witch is ideal for riding bowls.
: :
: : Still waiting for vid footage.

: : cheers joe
:
: I do carve both ways but only go right on any tricks lol. My arm is feeling better finally, still hurts but I can type and could draw all day at work without too much pain. So in a couple weeks I'll get a vid of myself carving Greenbelt. I can get up high and carve the lip all the way around! But I'm going to hold back doing any tricks on the big bowls for awhile. I'll keep those for the little bowl til I can control my slams better! I'm not sure how to edit the vids but sure I will learn quickly! I will appreciate any and all input. I cant wait to skate with another roller skater one day soon! I'm still learning via boarders now. They are a cool bunch tho!

Yea Ludi learned to roll with boarders as no one else was rollerskating in oz in the mid 70's when he started but I always had him to learn from as well as the boarders.I've always been heavily influenced by skateboarding and tend to do dedicated frontside and backside styled moves.I'll try and post up some footage of what I mean soon.

cheers joe

You have to find the optimal way to push. The arms can help to to gain speed, but I always imagined that you referred to erratic arm movements when you talked about "spazing" (Btw, a Spatz means sparrow in German).

I first read "overexposed" and couldn't find the pic to be overexposed. I got your meaning only on second reading. No, you didn't overpost. No one did till now.

: You are awesome!!

You, too! Congrats on your new job! And learn to bail on your knee pads. We always suffer from reading about your slams.

Again sorry for posting so many pics but these are my first pics sk8n a bowl so I got excited lol, as usual. ;-P

I seem to be healing OK. I wont rush into anything since my hand is crucial to work. I think at times I just have bad luck then everything gets better! Looking forward to my new job. I'm getting really good at illustrating!! I will finish up the t-shirts starting next week. A great thing about my new job is that its 10 mins from the Greenbelt bowls, woo-hoo!!!! :-D So is it nice enough to skate in Germany now? Hope so!

Aw, everone is happy to see those pics ...

It is, indeed. April was awful this year, but May is quite okay. I've been skating a bit, but also cycling and running. Trying to get fit a bit.

Aw, me too! I will try hard to get fit and strong once I heal. Saw the midatlantic skate competition today. The 40+ group seemed much slower. I'm not ready to slow down, just starting. i have high hopes to roll strong the next coming years! I will post about the competition later, Now I think I understand how to fall and pump but still not sure if I pump the corners on a perfectly round bowl if I want to stay up the entire lip. Sorry, my arm is better but its stiff now so hard to type. I guess when its healing, its normal to have limited range of motion?
