How R U Bernhard? How did the surgery go? I will most likely get medical coverage next month and then I will take care of my arm. I am trying to find a 2nd job so I can pay for my basics since I cant afford this. I dont want to be disabled tho. Hope you are ok.

Biff, love your stuff! I think I've posted this video myself already. I guess with medical I can skate with a cast on. One more month.

Dang, love the handplants! I hope I will be able to do those again one day soon. If you send me pics, I am doing quad vert t-shirts. I am a graphic artist/illustrator. I am not sk8n now and I hope I can start doing artwork real soon. If you have photos of handplants and give me permission to do so, it would be my honor to do you too.

 Hey bro,

Nice to see another quad skater on here. I like the way you switch from sidestance to parallel. What is your story? Have you been skating for a long time? Are you just getting back into it or have you been going strong for many years?

: How R U Bernhard? How did the surgery go?

I'm very fine, thank you. The surgery went well and the doctor pushed up my value by putting a titanium plate on the fracture of the little finger middle hand bone. With the addition of all the gold in my mouth I'm now quite a valuable person. ;-) The rest of the fractures didn't need to be fixed. In one week I will get a different cast which will allow me more movement.

I very much hope that your arm will be OK again. Take it easy and learn to avoid crash landings. You should always land in the transition and slide it out on your knee pads.

Glad to hear you are doing OK! :-D I'm still lost what to do but I think I need to get reinsured and borrow money to get it looked at. The pain is less but when I try to force rotate it, my elbow goes up. My other arm doesnt do that til it goes past the palms up mode. So I think I have to do this because I'm worrying myself nutso on if its healing in a deformed way.

Anyway was wondering what are you doing now to stay fit and have fun? Some days I get overwhelmed with this all and the bike thing is too much. Its very boring. I was going to start running but this weekend the heat is above 100 F and I have no air conditioning. But it should cool off a bit. Does running aggravate it? It aches 24-7 so the though of pounding doesnt sound pleasant but it might be OK. I was ok on the scooter til I had to grip the handlebars.

It's an outrage that you have to pay so much just to get looked at. When I broke my left thumb eight years ago, the whole treatment cost about 280 Euros. There is other stuff going in the wrong direction in this country but with healthcare, the US seem to be lightyears ahead of us. :-(

: Anyway was wondering what are you doing now to stay fit and have fun?

I'm not doing much physically at the moment, being freshly operated. I also have to stay away from work for at least the following week. Probably running will be the first activity I can resume. For roller skating, I would be able to lace up my shoes which I can't with my current cast. Anyway, there is enough other stuff to pass the time. Reading, Kakuro, internet, ...

In the US, a break without insurance means going to the ER and could cost $100,000+ debt it seems. It would ruin you forever. They can literally charge $1,000 just for a bandaid without medical. This problem leads people to sue in order to come ahead, then the cost of malpractice insurance goes up, rates go up, etc. etc.

My Mom cant even retire because to cover health care she would run out of money to live. My Dad is 75 and still working! The US does not take care of the working poor to lower middle class nor the elderly. Maybe I should reconsider having to be reinsured. I cant take off work really at all. I have to borrow money just for the insurance if I want to eat. Today I ate very little to save money since I'm just lying around bored and not doing anything. I'm not sure why I even have so much energy still. But if I wait til I get medical, it will be over 5 months past the injury! I hope I never run into this situation again.

I was told a break or a rupture, I would be in such extreme pain I couldnt sleep or work. I could. Then again when I fractured my ribs I didnt miss a minute of class after I got out of the hospital and slept fine, didnt take pain pills but a couple days. I didnt go to the Dr til a month after I broke my butt. I didnt want to be a pain in the ass lol. Thats it for my major injuries, none of which they did anything but they reinflated my lung when my rib punctured it. I actually was in the ER and didnt want any pain meds but my friend told me to take it cause I would feel good lol. Like I said, the pain of not skating and worrying over the injury is worse then the actual pain. But since I cant move it I'm very worried. I have a high pain tolerance it seems.

claudine: I read what is wrong.... (9. Jun. 2008 00:56)
I cant supinate my forearm. Seems like if I tore something, I would have loseness. Looks like I have a fracture or dislocation at the radial head. :-(

Read below if you want:

The bones of the elbow are the humerus (the upper arm bone), the ulna (the larger bone of the forearm, on the opposite side of the thumb), and the radius (the smaller bone of the forearm on the same side as the thumb). The elbow itself is essentially a hinge joint, meaning it bends and straightens like a hinge. But there is a second joint where the end of the radius (the radial head) meets the humerus. This joint is complicated because the radius has to rotate so that you can turn your hand palm up and palm down. At the same time, it has to slide against the end of the humerus as the elbow bends and straightens. The joint is even more complex because the radius has to slide against the ulna as it rotates the wrist as well. As a result, the end of the radius at the elbow is shaped like a smooth knob with a cup at the end to fit on the end of the humerus. The edges are also smooth where it glides against the ulna.

I'm not happy at all to read this. You should leave the US to live in a better place where medical care isn't a privilege of the rich.

Since I havent gone to the ER, not sure how much debt it would be. Sometimes they can lower the bills but I dont know. But if I reinstate my medical, its $378/month. We are getting a stimulus check for $600 which would cover almost 2 months. So I need to borrow for now then I can be over with it with just a little extra working a second job.

I'm surprised my elbow didnt hurt. It was what was bruised and swollen the most and what rotates the arm. But once I get it, I'm thinking it might be dislocated since I never felt sharp pains that I remember. I guess they just pop it back in, get a touch of therapy, and I'm on my way. I think I will get more involved in anything that would improve this situation with our country. Seems like for those that retire, it gets worse and worse. I hate to say this, I hope when I cant do anymore and work, I am 6 feet under. My mom told me in Germany its much better for retirement and you get more time off but there you cant afford to collect as much junk as here lol. Like I want to collect a bunch of junk in my tiny apartment. Just skates!

Well, the constant ache is at the middle where my wrists guards end, and that bone (radial) seems to go inward instead of straight. So I'm thinking that is where its at. Pretty sure the bone does the same thing no matter where its broken. I got 3 weeks and I'll get it fixed. I'm doing well at my job! Gets my mind off of it. My Mom gave me a big lecture yesterday that I am too old for skating and she will never watch me skate, its abusing myself. Grrr... She is hoping I will learn my lesson lol. I did. I need better wrist guards and take lessons from Robert, go slowly, no chancing without medical.

Alas......it WAS here in Austin, TX..

They were looking into a moving the Skate Park of Austin (S.P.A.) to a new location. The deal was almost done, and then the guy, that had the new property, changed his mind and reneged on the deal.

Because the S.P.A.'s owner had thought it was a done deal, he had stopped the current lease, and switched over to a month to month rent. The current warehouse owner decided to lease it out to someone else, since the S.P.A. wasn't committing to a more permanent lease.

R.I.P. --► The best bowl Texas ever had.

 Hey Robert,

Thanks! I have been skating vert for about 22 years. I'm 45 now, I started skating roller skates at 18, and found vert somewhere around the age of 23.

I started out in a rink, but I skated everywhere!! Then, I met the Urban Animals--► they were an outdoor Houston skate group that was very rough around the edges; Like Mad max on rollerskates! We skated parking garages downtown, played pick-up games of outdoor hockey, and hit the bars for last call to cool down afterwards. We also used to joust in the streets at festivals. One of the skaters with the group suggested that I would be perfect for vert....
so here I am. :D

Cheers!

Thank you for the welcome! I'll be on here a lot more now.
