Getting insurance
: But they want 3 months up front. :`( I will see what I can do to borrow money or if they can bill me monthly instead.

Insurance companies. Nuff said. Those in the US are particularly profitable.

: But it says it starts the 1st. The 4th is a holiday which I dont get paid yet. Should I wait til the 2nd at least so as to not miss 2 more days work, no? Do they do surgery right away if needed? Will I have to make an appointment? When I go should I not eat so I dont get sick if they put me out? Gosh this is going to cost me!! I'll be happy to get fixed tho!!

You probably won't be carved up right away even if they deem it necessary. It's not an emergency, no? Therefore, try to find out which place is best for you (some skaters around will have some experience) and just go there with your insurance credentials. When they see that you are covered, they will be happy to tell you all the rest. Which includes no eating before they put you out, but they won't do this right away.

Thanks Bernhard! I will go right away. Guess I wont have have that holiday which is already unpaid to recover if I need surgery which means another day unpaid since I dont get paid holidays yet. Gosh this sucks! I will be working 2 jobs for awhile it seems afterwards. I'm not sure now if I SHOULD go to the ER or a bone Dr. I never needed a bone fixed so I donno.....

Indeed. I'm in a much better situation in this respect. But I immediately went to work after I got my left thumb in a cast some 8 years ago. No paid recovery as a freelancer (which I was back then) neither.

What is ER? Did you talk to your skate buddies where they get their bones fixed?

Well I am lucky my bf works 5 mins from me so he can drive. So I hope not to miss much work. I dont rotate my forearm to use a mouse! ER is emergency room, the hospital. I dont know where else to go. My coworker that rides race horses comes back tomorrow. I will ask her on Drs since she broke her ankle, etc. Thats why I posted. I had a bad car accident once and went to the ER but all they had to do was reinflate my lung which they did right away. Nothing major.

Go on the 1st, don't wait any longer. You'll most likely be able to work after they've wrapped you up in a day or so. My guess is to look for a specialist. Some insurances need your primary doctor to refer you to a specialist, or they won't pay for it. Good luck.

Mines more in my forearm, hope thats better then the 6 month deal. :-O I hope so but it does appear to have healed the wrong way which I'm sure isnt good.
I guess I should still go to the ER? My Dr. never even called me back when I said I broke my arm. I called back and the receptionist said to go to the ER. I'm going to ask the girl who rides race horses who her Dr. is. I'm ready to switch! I tried to call the insurance company but all I got was answering machines then they hung up on me. Whats up with our country? I just want to heal and be rollin again. I feel like I'm a 100 yrs old right now.

 Hi Claudine,

I am stoked that you are getting insurance. Make sure you really understand your coverage. Make sure to find out if it is a PPO or HMO. Make sure you understand your deductible and your responsibility etc. We can definitely talk by e-mail. I have learned a lot about insurance since I broke my elbow. We have an incredibly screwed up health system and you have to be proactive about certain things. If you plan is a group plan, then you probably don't have to worry about a pre-existing situation, but I would check into it. I am hoping your situation is not serious. I really can't imagine that you had a serious break and were able to deal with it. If that is the case, then you are one tough momma.

Physically I am tough, the bills hurt a lot more lol. Its not pre-existing, already checked into it. I guess I have to ask Drs before I go. I hope its not much more. I am one step to being homeless right now as it is which sucks.
