Brian Wainwright Rollerskate Invitational on the Enterprise

Friday started with breakfast and the shocking sight of Kenny Helbert's swollen right hand. He claimed having been bitten by a Brown Recluse Violin Spider at his home in Orange County during his sleep. Never go to sleep in Orange County! The doctors pumped him full of antibiotica and would have kept him at the hospital, but Kenny wanted to come to Woodward at all price. Hopefully his hand has healed by now! During the day the inline skaters did their competition at The Enterprise. Those guys are crazy! There even was a roller skating competition in this contraption ...

Well, this Enterprise thing was some heavy stuff. In itself it was something most of the skaters weren't used to! And the mode of competition didn't make it easier. Being such a big thing, several skaters rode it at once. Some people like myself avoided the Enterprise because they saw no way to survive it, some (like Lee Ettinger) were happy to drop in to it and walk away with their bare lives. Irene made use of the whole area despite it being difficult to navigate. She did plate stalls and grinds and two wallride attempts. Despite missing a lot of oportunities for collisions, she finally managed to finish herself. After an air over the semi-tip she losts her way in the dark and crashed hard on her chin, spilling a lot of blood. Although none of Fred's blood had been spilled, Irene's chin got severely damaged. Altogether she found that The Enterprise needed a different approach than a usual pool.

Tim Altic couldn't participate in The Enterprise because of an organisational mistake. Duke Rennie showed us a front side carve over the quarter pipe on the vertical wall. He did bowl-to-bowl transfers, hip transfers and a soul arch in the volcano. Last not least he also pulled off a bowl-to-bowl transfer over the camel hump.

Well, this evening I have also been to the After Party at the near by bar. First off, big congratulations to California for their non-smoking rules. This way a non-smoker like myself also has a chance to participate in the social life. You can still numb your mouth region with some tequila, however. This evening, you could have pulled my teeth without me noticing. The inline gang showed videos under the motto "From Seeds to Leaves". This means they dug up some really pre-historic (regarding inline history, that is) stuff.
