OK need to get in shape!
My hamstring strain is cause I'm old and out of shape my Dr. said. Since old is not a word I will work on the get in shape part. All this rest has negative consequences. I need to get the whole backside of my legs in better shape. Should I strength train, if so how, or rollerskate on the streets some or just cross train? Just I find my lungs get in better shape but honestly, rollerskating bowls doesnt use the same muscles as any other activitiy. I'm in PT for my arm and shoulder still so I cant for my legs too.

If you can find a gym to work out in, they have machines that will work every muscle in your legs (as well as the rest of your body). Running also builds up leg muscles. And one of the best work outs for legs is swimming.

I dont run anymore cause it jams and wears down the joints permanently and I think I put in enough miles during my competitive days. Took only one 50 year old distance runner with replaced knees who couldnt walk right anymore and I was done! But I can do the same exercises at home with weights as in a pricey gym. Free weights are actually much better then machines for functional strength, esp. compound exercises. Will ask the PT if I should do this, high reps or what or just do street skating which should use somewhat similar muscles. I sent an email to the local derby team here to see if any derby girls would like to street skate to get in shape or learn some ramps/bowl skating and not one response, bummer. Thanks, still a touch sore but better.

Sounds like swimming would be best for you, then.
