I guess the winter here is milder than in Germany. There is a lot of fog in Madrid but when the sun shines, it's fine during the day. You know, usually, winter is not a good season for rollerskating, but fortunatelly, we have an indoor vert to rip.
The main problem here is that only a very few people keep on ridding. Injuries, marriages, jobs, lazyness, age... have apparted people from rollerskating. Besides, young guys use to skate in line street skating. They don't ride miniramps and when they come to the vert, it's too difficult for them to pull off any trick, and they get frustated. They don't have the illusion my friends and I had when we started visiting vert ramps. We knew it was difficult but we still wanted to do the tricks we saw from Marcos Longares, Gerardo Caņizares or Eduardo Cortijo.
Sometimes I have to skate alone. It's a little bit sad, but when you are hot, you only think on pull off tricks better. Besides, it's good to put yourself an objective, something that motivates you, because to skate hard requires determination. Music is also helpful. You see, even with a ramp, there are some other difficulties, (je, je), but I still ride, because it's what I like most. This evening, I will skate with a friend and 2 or 3 guys more (this is a bunch). There are some liptricks I want to recover (a soft knee injure keep me stopped a couple of months and I have lost them).
Sorry for the boring comment, and greetings for all the people who fight to do the things that makes them happy in their lives.
You guys, keep on ripping!

A Happy and Prosperous New Year to all from me too!

Irene, you really make me blush. :) My gratitude goes to all the skaters who are the live and soul of this forum. I am really happy with the high level and the kind language of the postings in this forum. I also operate some other forums but none of them is as good as this one. It mirrors the experience I had when meeting other vertical roller skaters. The vast majority have been very kind people. Probably has to do with roller skaters being more mature and also fewer in numbers.

Bi Nelo! How's the winter in Spain? We had 8 Degrees in Freiburg today (after some days below zero)!

I can relate and sympathize with you. I am the only rollerskater, I think only 3-4 at most in the late 70s. Fortunately, we also have an indoor vert ramp and I skate with mostly skateboarders (the inliners are like the inliners at your ramp) and luckily there are and handful of youngsters attacking vert quite well. I'm happy that a new generation of skaters are appreciating vert. I, too, spent many years skating alone at times and had to dig deep for motivation. I've always been more inspired by vert skating and have enjoyed that over street or miniramp, and since I've been skating some bowls in the last few years, I've come to really like carving round walls. Like you, it's what makes me feel good, so I will keep skating until I can't anymore. I hope to be at it for awhile still, though old age is taking it's toll. I like the last statement you made below:
Greetings for all the people who fight to do the things that makes them happy in their lives.

Keep on rolling! Know that I am there with you in spirit.

How I envy you! But Basel is not so far from here (60 km), so I hope to be skating there soon again. I will be working there again starting in February.

: We knew it was difficult but we still wanted to do the tricks we saw from Marcos Longares, Gerardo Caņizares or Eduardo Cortijo.

I think that was the motivation for a lot of us: Seeing some crazy roller skating doing impossible stuff in those awe-inspiring ramps! The youth has different idols.

: Sometimes I have to skate alone.

I know that this is a small consolation but I have to skate alone most of the time. Sometimes a friend skates with me on his skateboard. There were times when there were quite some roller skaters in this region. Sometimes they put on their skates. But this is only on rare occasions. :-(

: Sorry for the boring comment,

Not boring at all. I believe everyone in this forum can relate to other vert roller skaters and likes to hear from them.

: You guys, keep on ripping!

Same to you.
