Dropped in....
: : The 6' is just a flat ramp, 60 degree slope so its not vert (90) like the halfpipe. So its easy for me. Looking straight down gets to me still lol.
:
: So the 5' ramp is vert? Keep off of it. The geometry is wrong, it is just plain dangerous. A 5' vert ramp is too steep. You can hurt yourself really bad in such a contraption.
:

Not quite vert but close enough for me. Its a standard ramp. I dropped in on the mini one finally! My heartrate got up so fast I thought I might have a heart attack lol. No caffeine before skating now. I had to chill after the first 2 times to let my heart rate go down. But I did it, 5 out of 7 tries. Just to the other end though. Enough for me for today.

I stand left foot on the coping, right I jump in with it in front cause this coping was up at least a half inch so I didnt want my wheels to lock on it. Just sometimes I'm on my back wheels with the front foot. I thought you should have them apart but that puts me too much on my back wheels with the front foot. Not far enough forward? I donno. I think I need to losen up more too but first time today and it was such a rush! I still get confused how to move my body from straight up to droping in on the ramp with coping there. The flat ones are easy. I guess I will figure it out soon.

Robert: Getting it back (6. Oct. 2007 05:27)
Yesterday I decided to start rolling in again. I am now charging the bowl and rolling in. It is so nice to have that kind of speed and do a nice grind. After a few weeks, I have finally gotten back one of my old tricks. It is like a boneless footplant on a skateboard. I pop out of the bowl and land on my left toe stop while my right leg gets held behind my back. It used to be a very easy trick, but it is nice to have it back. I skated everyday this week and my legs are so f'n sore that I can barely walk during the day. I am having a blast. I think my patience will pay off and my goal is to have at leat one of my flips and my layback air back my the end of November.

So cool! You'll have to get pics soon. :-)

I have the same problem too. My legs are so damn tired and ache........ I skate hard everyday, an hour or two or three+ lol. I sugar up to forget they dont want to move. Not sure how to recover quicker. Think my body will adjust. I dont want to rest. Right now I have a big bruise below my calve from jumping my first gap. Its a little swollen and purple but should heal in a few days. Thats OK......I won a popcicle over it so it was totally worth it!! :-D

What type of gap? Do you have any pics of where you skate? Is it listed in any of the skatepark sites?

It was off a 7 foot ramp that I was going up. Gaithersburg skate park but the pics are different then it is now. I need a good camera one day soon and I'll post myself!

But they have a 5 foot ramp thats flat on top next this 7 foot quarter pipe that I was going up. Theres an 6-9 inch gap between them and another ramp behind that goes from the flat one to top of the 7 foot ramp. So if you get too much speed and dont make a good 90 degree turn and jump over the gap, you will slam into the other ramp and I almost slammed my chest into it but bounced off my hands and landed on my hip lol. But one time I got my right foot landed and my left foot was in the gap still and it slammed into the ramp, ouch. After that I made sure up the ramp I jumped harder with BOTH legs!! Man was that some serious FUN! I'm skating with softer wheels now so I land all this stuff. But yeah, basically a 7 foot quarter pipe, gap, onto a flat top of another 5 foot ramp. When I get better, I will jump it DOWN onto the quarter pipe but not ready yet lol.

Its not THAT big of a trick but remember, I'm new! Almost a year old now.
:-D

I'm proud......honestly, when I started, didnt think I would be doing this stuff. I cant wait til I've had a few years behind me........ Its very addicting!! I might need to soak my legs, tomorrow going to the mini to try dropping in/stalls.

It sounds like you are learning on some hard stuff. Is the mini a halfpipe? I suggest you practice in either a halfpipe or a bowl and learn how to pump and carve. Don't worry about the tricks. It sounds like you are trying too much before learning the basics. I could be wrong, but I have just been carving and doing a few minor tricks, but at the same time getting a lot faster and getting my lines down. Quarter pipes are good, if you have nothing else, but they really don't give you a chance to flow.

I already know how to pump, jump transitions, spin them, etc. I am getting bored so I want to try new things. This skatepark has a 3-4 foot halfpipe, mini. That will be easy for me. I can drop in on a 4 foot one already, just mentally not the 5 foot halfipipe although the flat ones are easy to do. I drop in on the 6 foot ones also, fly over those even! I will just get some airs and hit a few stalls when I feel comfortable. Its 3 or 4 feet only. Not a big deal. I think I can handle it, if not theres next weekend to try it again! Its not an advanced halfpipe. I can pump up to about 6 feet now. I should be dropping in the 5 foot one already, mentally I'm stuck though.

You can drop in the 6', but not the 5'? It sounds like you are doing awesome! I would keep practicing the halfpipes and not worry about the quarters unless you are into street skating. It sounds like you are where a lot of us were back in the day and that is awesome. I am just thinking about you not getting hurt. It sounds like you are really into progression and that is great. I guess my injury made me too cautious. I think you should do whatever feels right. I know how it feels to want to learn a new trick everytime out. If you can handle the pain, then I think you should go for it. I guess I have gotten a bit too conservative, but I am progressing every session. Maybe soon I will get what you have and start skating again.

Oh, havent hurt myself til I got a bruise. Its just sore to the touch. Think I might see if I wrap it up it will help. Once I start skating, it doesnt hurt at all lol. I dont try new stuff all the time, just seem to be on a roll this week!! I do try to push myself a touch everyday though. I will have a few weeks when I start work for my body to rest so wearing myself out the next 2 weeks. But I think you're awesome! I cant do lines on a bowl yet. I'm getting into street courses though.

Not quite vert but close enough for me. Its a standard ramp. I dropped in on the mini one finally! My heartrate got up so fast I thought I might have a heart attack lol. Yuo should'nt lock up a wheel with those jump bars so low, maybe sit on the adge of the coping with your skate in your hand and roll it over slowly like it would if you were dropping in and see if anything is gonna be an issue.Watching a bit of video footage of your own skating is an awsome learning tool, you find somethings that are scary and holding you back, when viewed from another perspective, are realy not a problem and you can overcome some hangups and blaze ahead..

cheers joe

Well, rolling in on the flat coping, my wheels have caught and I had some bad spills cause of it, thus the fear. So its just a mini jump down. I think I need to start with my feet parallel to each other. Thats how I land on my transitions when pumping the ramp. I think that will get me more flat on my wheels. I think I might not be throwing my body far enough forward going into it. I watched the kids do it and most the time if they fall its cause they lean back. They were all skateboarders tho.

Wow that was fun! I"m meeting some guys tomorrow at the skatepark here already so I dont think I can handle 2 skates. My body is trashed! I will do it again but have to wait til Friday then. I wish they opened up during the week. I'm ready now lol. One day I hope to have a video camera. That will help me to "see."

Thanks Joe! I appreciate all the help with my beginner questions. Keep on rollin!
