Did Landsdowne today!
: That place is fun. Not as fun as the greenbelt bowl but very different, lots of changes, and it teaches you how to stay loose and carve. Challenging at first.
:
: The snake runs are fun but some are very narrow V shaped. As a roller skater, if I got in the center, I couldnt skate unless I did sidestance. So I figured how to ride the lip. Even going down, I couldnt go straight down, only at angles since it was so tight. One place wasnt quad friendly.
:
: Problems: It was slow and some areas are narrow. Its rough concrete so I put on my aerobic roller skate wheel with crappy bearings, no spacers. It was tons of drag. Zero speed which sucked. Are all rollerskate wheels this way? I guess since this is a park from the 70s, I should get soft skateboard wheels eventually instead or will those be slow too? Also, when you go down the run into the bowl, the top isnt vert at all so its hard to get speed down it to come back up the run and I couldnt pull a handplant on it since there were no steep areas. Its not a trick park, just carving. I seem to enjoy more speed and close to vert now. The walls most werent much steeper then 45-60 degrees max.
:
: Some places they were flat walls and the transition was too sharp at the bottom so I had to ride the lip down those areas too. I find if I dont go down walls with a nice steep curve, I loose speed too quick. So I had to actually skate a lot too at times to pick up speed so now my knee is sore. I think my body is begining to understand how to move with the bowl. I'm getting better at getting more perpendicular to the wall when I start getting up towards the lip but its harder when I'm not going as fast. I think the guard there was digging watching me! He kept telling me I was getting better each run. I had no idea how to ride it at first lol.

Good onya Claudine,,sometimes the fun part about those old gnarly spots is just surviving a run and still finding a line or 2 and then eventialy pulling a trick. We are very spoilt with the quality trany we have these days.Every spot has it's good and bad points,it all comes down to what you can make of it.

cheers joe

I enjoyed it! What I loved was that its different and irregular so you are always guessing. I found some good runs!! But many arent built for roller skaters. I think I need to learn sidestance for the narrow V runs? ;-D My biggest problem was the soft roller skate wheels which were really slow cause I'm a spoiled brat now lol. I also enjoy the smooth concrete at Greenbelt, feels like butter! That place is amazing! I just wish their coping was a touch taller and they had a third bowl between the little and big guy. I'm greedy eh lol? ;-D Aw shux, even if I put my skates on I feel happy!

hi claudine, i like your attitude. you must be wound up like a spring to have all this energy.weve enjoyed following your
progress . over here the local councils are all trying to outdo each other, the result is that we are getting lots of
top class sk8 parks. because of this our skill levels are also improving. happy rolling, cheers h .

: I'm hyperactive so I'm always itching to have fun lol! Bernhard is the best dude ever to have this forum. There arent any vertical roller skaters here to speak of and at work they dont understand. I'm hoping some of the derby girls will roll the bowl at least sometimes. So I'm happy that theres a place to talk with other roller skaters here.

After going to Greenbelt today, I'm digging Landsdowne more cause there are runs and thats a fun change. I think if I get some soft fast skateboard wheels which have some speed, it will be a lot more fun!

joe and i are all alone here in melb. luckily, we roll with the moss guys. we recently went to sydney to compete in the sos bowl jam, where we met rollerball and sk8ted monster ramp. it was rad. we also hooked up with bernhard in syd and
melb, he rolled the half pipe at the shed with us and impressed us alot. australia has 21 mill people, we roller
skaters number only 4 , id call that a minority. im new to
computers, thats why i keep it brief. im very glad to have
found this site , im anticipating babbling to you guys plenty more soon. c u . h.

You are lucky to have one roller pal! I only got to skate with another roller skater twice. I hope she has time one day to skate with me again but either way, I've made it in with the boarders so I dont feel alone. Its just I have noone to watch. There arent enough u-tube videos for me to learn from yet but I watch them all. I know that in person will be a hundred times better! Its much easier to progress if you have someone to skate with and its a ton more fun. When I first started roller skating I felt alone being the only girl, the only roller skater and older one on top of that. But at the bowls, there are plenty of older skaters and a girl once in awhile and they are just a cool bunch. But this site helps to fill up those holes being a roller skater!! Everyone here is awesome. :-D I really cant complain being a minority. It has its benefits.

As Lundi has said, in Spain there is no more than 8 or 10 vert riders, so I can tell that there is approximately 1 vert rollerskater in every 5 million population (Spain's population is 45 millions).

Yes Claudine, we are a small and friendly family :)
