: Here is my arm after wrist guards!

Looks quite nasty. Take care!

: But now I understand how to fall safely after watching the vert competition. No I wont do street for certain now since even the "pros" fall crazy.

Street is really dangerous, since you have far less options for controlled falls. In that respect the big ramps are best. You have lots of transistion where you can control your fall.

: I learned I should really only be sliding on my knees and lean back, not falling forward where I slide on my knees & wrist guards or putting out my arm to protect my bum hip.

That's it. Use your knee pads to fall without harm.

: But I'm wondering if there are safer wrist guards?

Wrist guards don't prevent fractures, they just relocate the point where it happens from the very delicate wrist to the forearm. I never use wrist guards but only gloves, but then, my wrists aren't that delicate. I also do not recommend not wearing wrist guards, it's just the case that I never did. And the gloves are there mainly to protect my finger nails which I need for playing the (classical) guitar.

: Should I put a piece of foam under the wrist guard plastic?

I can't give any recommendation as to that since I have no experience with wrist guards. But I did have foam protecting knuckles or palm sometimes in my gloves. I found this protections quite useful back then, but didn't have it since uncountable years.

Here is my arm after wrist guards! These are the hired hands. But now I understand how to fall safely after watching the vert competition. No I wont do street for certain now since even the "pros" fall crazy. I learned I should really only be sliding on my knees and lean back, not falling forward where I slide on my knees & wrist guards or putting out my arm to protect my bum hip. I'm going to heal fully for a few more weeks now too. I will practice sliding on my knees, leaning back and twisting to get on my knees ALL the time once I'm healed so its automatic. But I'm wondering if there are safer wrist guards? Plastic is now scaring me.

The wrist guard dug into my arm I think, the plastic. I'm not sure how I fell exactly, it was sideways somehow. I cant rotate wrist outward now without stiffness and pain. Its swollen but I can move all joints and not that swollen that something is broken or ripped. My elbow doesn't hurt so not sure why its all bruised and my hand is fine. Is there something I could wear so I can roll my skateboard at least soon? Should I put a piece of foam under the wrist guard plastic? I saw a guy skating with a cast on but I dont want to go to the Dr. to get a cast for a sprain so I can skate lol. I think all I can do is let it heal and slowly start to moving it the full range of motion every day.

Also knee pads. Finally found a pair thats not for kids that fit me without gaskets. Yeah, the youth protec fit my knee lol but the plastic part is small but the small street Protec dont spin around my knee either and arent ridiculously wide! So I can put these on and skateboard if I dont have time to change like I have to do with the scabs and get my knees more together. For skateboard I find I need to get my knees more together but with quads I skate wide. I assume these arent as good as the scabs tho? The boneless kinda fit too and were narrow but the ones I tried on that cap was round, and the straps weren't comfy and secure buckle. I saw other at the comp from boneless that had better straps but these looked like they would open easily. Any opinions? I guess for street I will skate protecs and vert bowls I will stick with scabs. I dont know why my bones are so tiny lol.

Sorry so long a post but not skating is hard for me so I need to to find out what I can do to now be injury FREE and for many, many years. I'll put up the vert comp. photos next weekend on my site, enough typing this weekend! BTW, they are letting me skate in the midatlantic comp., so in Aug I will. Cant compete but I just want to show the crowd that quads are rad too!

I think I will still wear them since I do think they help out on slides, but now I wont think they help out on hard falls, they dont!

I spoke to one of my friends thats a nurse. Since I have feeling and the pain is bearable, she said that its nothing serious that I must see a Dr for. Muscle injury causes swelling which restricts range of motion. My present insurance plan is expensive and covers lousy. Glad I will have a better one with my next job! But I'm out of skating for awhile til this heals cause I need my arm for work. I try not to talk about my injuries to non skaters cause then I have people ask me, "How old are you? Arent you a little OLD for skating? How about swimming? lol. Arent you kinda skinny to be doing this, you could break something!" Grrrrrr...... I still want to skate til I'm 60, or longer if possible! I will practice falling right. I'm new to the vert bowls.

Yeah. Just don't slam on your hands or arms. Always land in the transistion and slide it out. This takes the impact out of your fall. If you do a full impact (e.g. by landing directly in the flat) you have to absorb all you kinetic energy. By sliding it out, you can convert almost all the kinetic energy into friction.

You can ask them back: "Ain't I a bit young to stop having fun?"

Honestly, sk8n does more for my health then takes from it! I'm happy, try my best to keep in the best of health, much stronger then I have been in years and really love living life! I think if you took out my joy in life, I would just be blah and going down the tubes like most people my age. So far so good, need no meds yet. Got my cholesterol back in the normal range on my own too! ;-D BTW, my arm is doing a touch better today. Trying to figure out what fun I can do. Darn, cant have fun riding the motorcycles at Dave and Busters. I am listed on the top 10!!

hi, we have motorbikes too but sk8ting is more fun.
you might have to knock a few volts out of your dynamo. just for the minute, until you heal. judging by the look of that elbow, you really hurt yourself. pull back a little and just practice carving etc , we dont want you to wind up like a gimp.
i agree to keep wearing wristgaurds, theyll come in handy once you start doing inverts, also theres no reason we cant roll on for another decade or so. i think were up to it, ok cheers for now and please take it easy beanie.

I think this weekend I'll start to ride my bike on a trainer, then in another week or so I'll roll easy on the skateboard where I can run off it. I'm starting my new job in one week so I cant chance my right arm. Its not serous pain but it aches constantly. The elbow actually doesnt hurt. Wrapping and ice ease that up a bit. The agony of not sk8n hurts more.....

But I'm so darn bored now. When I go back to sk8n, I'll just carve when it comes to vert. I'll leave the tricks to the little bowls for awhile. I'll try to control myself til Aug-Sept when I will get some benefits. Gosh Robert, how do you manage to just carve? I dont seem to have that much self control. I was doing grabs 8 feet up the wall and I thought I was only skating 6 1/2 feet up lol, whoops! Its just too much fun.

Oh the motorcycle is just a simulator game. I love it! I can even spin on my head on the seat lol when I go off jumps, I'm so rad! The streets here are too dangerous for me to ride a real one. I was going to get myself a scooter but I dont want to chance my life yet.

Any recommendation for better wrist guards or are they all the same? I just hope I only wear them now, not use them. If anyone wants to post a how to fall on vert video, I would love it. I hope you all are rippin it up for me!!
