: : I know the oldschool rollerskaters that switched to inline are very cool, but inliners have a really bad reputation. Here is a funny video.

when i started skn i thought i was most similar to bladers but not at all. many have a bad attitude, wax pool ledges so wax is everywhere and do that to private property and put down all others, pick fights. never had this w/ a boarder so i talk to them now. but its just some, just i dont assume the good now. a couple r cool. i spoke to a guy the other day and he had 2 surgeries, let his heal like me. he told me the hip graft left him unable to walk 1 1/2 weeks but that healed in 6 weeks. still in arm cast 3 months later but he was really cool to me and eased some of my fears so i would consider him a friend, not a foe nor gay. many kids are obnoxious like only rails and are big jerks who blame it on the boarders who do nthing to them. they asct retarded, not gay if you ask me. now all rollersk8rs are the upmost cool!!!!!! :-D no need to rule, we are just happiest rollers!!!

I think it,s more of an age thing,, the most cocky fuckers I,ve ever met were skateboarders but some of the radest people I,ve met were skateboarders too.I had a ball on inlines for about ten years of my life and now I'm back on my rollerskates, I'm having a ball again. It aint about the act,it,s about the attitude and every scene has it,s dicks and it,s rad folk. There is some awsome inliners out there as there is skateboarders but thete is some real fuckwits too,it seems the rollerskaters have the highest wank to rad ratio out there, maybe cos there seems to be so few of us.Search double flat spin on youtube by one of the rad jap brothers for some mind numbing inline action.Anyone who says that aint rad is lying to cover their pride.

cheers joe

After not skating for sixteen years, I decided to end my skating with my roots. I used to skate on conventional skates with really narrow trucks and I did a lot of flips and stuff, but these new skates are so fun. I pretty much just grind, but it is so fun. I think I am back on my rollerskates out of respect for our community. I sold out for a while to be sponsored and had a blast on inlines, but I am old and just want to do what I did as a kid.

g day. in the beginning, when you really think about it,rollerskating started it all. those old crud adjustable skates often with metal wheels. cut one in half put them under a piece of wood and youve got a skateboard.
we definantly started out that way in the day. over here we would hammer out the axles of narrow trucks and fit allthread with lots of nuts to make superwide trucks which usually bent but we had lots of fun.
then we would bolt footy boots onto speedskates put on sims bowlrider wheels and rip em till they gave out.
as for roller blades, well i guess they were devised as some sort of punishment.
cheers, h .

i rollerbladed for all of 5 mins lol cause i thought it would be easier to learn how to grind (slide) and drop in. there was no fun in it for me being on rigid frames. i felt like i was trying to run in a straight jacket. i love the rocking feeling of trucks and how they turn. i am in it just to have fun!

Claudine, I think geography has a lot to do with things. In some areas different types of sports are popular. I am guessing you live in an area where rink skating is popular and inliners have attitude. I currently live in an area where skateboarding is thriving. I don't see inliners and I am the only rollerskater at my park. Everyone is cool and it is a really great scene. I must admit that I am grateful to skate in a non hating environment. I think the inliners should get credit and there are some amazing skaters. I think the good ones should educate the groms and teach them the history of skating. I always say hi to an inliner if I see one because they are a product of rollerskating. If someone is cool, then I don't care what they are riding. I just took some video yesterday of the pros getting ready for the X Games and I think you all will like this stuff.

Funny the first skateboard I rode was a rollerskate cut in half that my brother made me.We had never seen one before(living in a small wisky village in Scotland at the time)he just had the same idea that someone had a few years earlier.First roll and we were hooked for life.I would have been 7ish at the time. Then we moved to Oz in 78 and hooked up with Ludi prety Quickly and built our first real ramp in our back yard.Ludi was a seasoned ramp builder by that time and our ramp was probably one of the better ramps around for a few years especialy after we cut it through the centre and added about 8 feet of flat(ramps were all curve back then).Anyhoo Ludi got us full on into Vert and punk and for me,I think I started rollerskating just to be like Ludi.I skated solid through to the late 80's and drifted off for a couple of years till Ludi met a bloke who had an inline shop and was putting together a team,,so I got in on the action.Rolled inlines till about 2000 and drifted off again(always had a board in my car and rolled that here and there)until a couple of years back when I started dreaming about putting a set of rollerskates together again, and got in touch with the scene again via charliedontskate.com,our local old school skate comunity online club room were I found photos of Ludi terorizing the local bowls(we'd been out of contact for a bit)so I threw a set together and that was about a year or so ago now and I'm loving it again.
So to answer your question finaly Irene, when I started dreaming of skating again,it was rollerskates I dreamed of and it just seemed to feel right with the re-emergance of the old school scene.I do very much like to grind as well.
I guess it could be the same as the old car/bike scene, with all these new wiz bang machines around that do everything 100% better and faster and smoother than the old, folks will still spend shitloads restoring a classic. You have to be in that mind set too understand it,and I recon we are.
Finding these forums was a life changer as well. The first night I stumbled across it I spent all night checking out the pics and I read every post back to the first, with butterflys in my gut.Thanx again Mr B (if you read this far),your a fucking legeng mate.

cheers joe

there r tons of boarders here and i get along w/ all of them and never had one problem w/ me being on quads, very few inliners. they like rails and i go to bowls but there were a coulpe at my street park across the street. i got a lot of flack when i started by them asking me when i would get real/agrressive sk8s and they told me mine wernt good and mine suck, etc. now i never hear that. inliners at the bowls wax the bowl and make it dangerous for others since they only care about going pro and must have most slide. boarders dont like them. my bf spent a week cleaning one bowl, not fun. so i dont usually approach them unless they r nice, but there is good and bad in all groups. i hold no prejudice. i dont talk much to rink sk8rs either now. not interested in competing w/ who can have the most and most pricey sk8s on forums. rather talk about sk8n now. i have a pair of vert sk8s that do what i like to do now so i rather think about using them. most like to b negative that quads can sk8 outside and dont care to argue anymore there beliefs. they can thiink only inlines can sk8 outside but they r missing out. their loss.

: : : : : : : : well some of the cockiest sk8rs i know r the rink skrs who just roll in circles and own 25 pairs of $1000+ sks. they think you are nothing unless u own a rolline. would love to show them up on my plastic plates!
: : : : :
: : : : : curiosity question: those who have inlined in the past, why are you now on rollerskates? i have my reasons, but am interested in other opinions. thanx ;-}
: : :
: : : g day. in the beginning, when you really think about it,rollerskating started it all. those old crud adjustable skates often with metal wheels. cut one in half put them under a piece of wood and youve got a skateboard.
: : : we definantly started out that way in the day. over here we would hammer out the axles of narrow trucks and fit allthread with lots of nuts to make superwide trucks which usually bent but we had lots of fun.
: : : then we would bolt footy boots onto speedskates put on sims bowlrider wheels and rip em till they gave out.
: : : as for roller blades, well i guess they were devised as some sort of punishment.
: : : cheers, h .

: : i rollerbladed for all of 5 mins lol cause i thought it would be easier to learn how to grind (slide) and drop in. there was no fun in it for me being on rigid frames. i felt like i was trying to run in a straight jacket. i love the rocking feeling of trucks and how they turn. i am in it just to have fun!

claudine: example (27. Jul. 2008 15:31)
robert, heres just a recent example that popped up on todays posts of why i am not so interersted in rapping w/ rink sk8rs. here they are dissing most of our boots telling new sk8rs that anything below a 595/695 is crap. we seem to b rollin ok on carerras and 265s but unless u like to argue, i would let it be..

: Claudine, I think geography has a lot to do with things.

: : : : After not skating for sixteen years, I decided to end my skating with my roots.
: : : :
: : : : : : u can ignore me 4 now. latelly ive been in most pain of my life ever and work is now hell. ive got the most extreme shooting stabbing sharp gunshot pains ever where ive even screamed at work and im no sissy. maybe built a tolerance to pain meds. but my experiences here w/ a few of the kids were not the best, its the area too. i dont like others flack so i keep to my own. that one inliner i met the other day was really rad and cool to me and gives me ease that 1 day i wont be in pain and skn. i will b happy to sk8 w/ him. but i wont take back that every vert rollrsk8r ive met here is rad!!
: : : : : :
: : : : : : : I just thought is was funny. Joe, I was a sponsored Inline skater and had a great time as well. The Yakotoshi (sp?) brothers are amazing.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : I think it,s more of an age thing,, the most cocky fuckers I,ve ever met were skateboarders but some of the radest people I,ve met were skateboarders too.I had a ball on inlines for about ten years of my life and now I'm back on my rollerskates, I'm having a ball again.

Bernhard: Rollerbladers (27. Jul. 2008 23:08)
Joe, thanks for sharing this story which of course I read to the end. No, I'm no legend, but I was happy enough to meet some in person.

I've been moved to tears that you read through all the postings in the forum. Didn't know that you are Scottish, however. I met a Scottish lady in Australia and I had an even harder time understanding her than I had understanding the Australians (well, the Tasmanians where particularly difficult to understand ;-).
