|Nope, I do not mean the government here but Google. After Microsoft, Google is quickly becoming the greatest threat to privacy. And I also think it matters for everyone of us harmless types.
But the government isn't without problems, either. Here in Germany we witnessed an ever increasing cutback of civil rights. There is connection data recording, there is censorship via web access blocking, there is the federal trojan horse and more. And there are also incidents showing what can go wrong with those techniques. There will hopefully be some improvement with the current government (not that I like them particularly) but I do not know if this hope is justified. The immigration restrictions introduced by the Bush administration are also still in place ... The rule seems to be once a civil right has been restricted it is very hard to get it back.
