He surely believes this very firmly. Maybe it is even true in some sense. But is which sense? How does he define "better"? Does he have some objective proof for this?
I think you are on the right track when you say that the application domain of the different protectors is just different. I think the statement of this guy would be like saying that vertical roller skates are the best. The best for what? Surely not for figure skating!
